I am writing this appeal to the Financial Aid Committee in order to continue receiving financial aid for my stay at the University of Southern California. The reason is that I had suffered an injury which caused me to lose focus in my studies. When I was dancing, I tore my hamstring in my right leg. I was able to balance my dancing and my studies before, but with the injury I became distracted. I had to go to physical therapy, and when I was in my dance classes I needed to work extra hard to not to create more injury and to heal quickly. Because I was unable to do many of the things required when dancing, I became discouraged in what I was doing, and felt upset when in class. This caused my mind to be less open to doing certain activities, some of these being academic classes and assignments. As well as my mental state being worse from discouragement, I also was in pain a lot of the time and it caused my mind to wander. The injury took up more of my time and my mind, and therefore my grades and GPA lowered.

Regardless of these circumstances, I will raise my GPA so that I can continue to receive financial aid. In order to do so, I have created the following strategy. Now that my injury is no longer an issue, I am not going to physical therapy, and thus have more time to spend studying and working on assignments. We are not paying for the physical therapy any longer, and I need not worry about any financial burden on my family. In addition to that, my mental state is much better. I often times felt discouraged with my injury, whether it be with dance or schoolwork. But now, I am able to begin work more quickly and get it done easier. With this extra time and energy that I have for doing my assignments, I will study harder and be more focused on my work. It can be noticed that my grades are already improving because I do have more time to put into my school, without worrying about pain or physical therapy.

To end up financial aid letter example, although I do not currently meet the standards, I am working to achieve this status once again. I am a very hardworking student, and I excel in the classes I am passionate about. My grades are something that I do very much care about and I am trying everyday to improve them. Now that I have all of my time and energy back, I am more able to focus on my studies. I will study harder and do more for school over dance, if need be. I no longer have any major distractions in my life and can focus on getting back to where I used to be. There is also a window open for me to go and receive academic help from others, like a tutor or study group.
