As I sit down to write this essay, I am reminded of the people in my life who have inspired me to pursue my passion for music. The seeds of my musical career were sown in my childhood, and I have been fortunate enough to have a supportive family and circle of friends who have helped me nurture this passion.
One of the most influential figures in my life was my grandfather. He was a self-taught musician who played the guitar and sang beautifully. As a child, I would often spend weekends at my grandparents' house, and I was always mesmerized by my grandfather's music. I remember sitting on the front porch, listening to him strum his guitar and sing songs in his deep, soothing voice. His love for music was infectious, and he encouraged me to pursue my own musical interests.
My grandfather passed away when I was still young, but his memory and his music have stayed with me. Whenever I play the guitar, I feel a sense of connection to him and the musical legacy that he left behind.
Another person who inspired me was my high school music teacher. She was a talented musician who had a passion for teaching and mentoring young musicians. Her enthusiasm for music was contagious, and she created a safe and nurturing environment in which her students could thrive. I remember spending hours in her classroom, practicing my guitar and learning new techniques. Her guidance and support were instrumental in shaping my musical skills and helping me gain confidence in my abilities.
As I began to explore my options for college, I knew that I wanted to study music in a rigorous academic environment. New York University's music department immediately caught my attention. The faculty's diverse backgrounds and wide-ranging expertise spoke to me, as did the program's emphasis on collaboration and innovation.
I was also impressed by the department's focus on the intersection of music and technology. As someone who is passionate about using technology to create and share music, I am excited about the opportunities that NYU's music department offers in this regard. I am eager to learn from the department's talented faculty, work with my peers on collaborative projects, and take advantage of the resources that NYU offers.
Overall, I am deeply committed to pursuing a career in music. My grandfather and my high school music teacher were instrumental in igniting my passion for music, and I am grateful for their influence on my life. With the knowledge and skills that I hope to gain at NYU's music department, I am excited to continue on this path and make my own contribution to the world of music.
