Motivation Letter: University Application for Study

Motivation letter can also be called as a letter of motivation. It is s a short letter that explains why you're the perfect candidate for the position (at job or at the university/college) by using examples of your interests and achievements. This is a motivation letter university example in which an author describe his purpose for studying a Communication Management course at the University of Southern California. 

Dear Sir/Madam,

When I was young, my fascination for the social and management science began whenever I followed my parents to their outlet where they do their daily business as well as the shopping mall. I observed that to buy or receive anything, one would impact or exchange information by speaking, writing, or using some other medium to obtain that commodity and thus my love for social and management sciences increased.

Growing up, I have come to terms with an assertion that continuous learning is a core value which should be upheld strongly in this age and time. I have also noted that self- development rallied around dynamism; a broadened scope of study aids career growth.

Based on the above, I decided to take out time to critically study institutions, courses and the overall impact on my individual being as well as my career growth whilst also putting into consideration how impactful my experience would be to the society at large.

However, in consonance to my strong believe to be dynamic when grooming oneself for an outstanding career, I resolved to studying courses that would be complementary in my future aspirations/endeavours. While I enjoyed a background knowledge in Computer Engineering and a Bachelors Degree in Microbiology, it has been my dream to explore concentrations that would fit into any career path as well as broaden my scope and knowledge. To this end, I have chosen to study Masters in Communication Management to boost my career growth.

Studying microbiology as an undergraduate has helped me a lot. I learnt how to pay attention to details and to handle life issues meticulously as microorganisms are organised and are not visible to the naked eye and because they are ubiquitous in nature, thus, aseptic techniques are non-negotiable in handling them.

During my undergraduate studies, I held leadership positions which has helped prepare me for future responsibilities. I was the financial Secretary of the Departmental Association of Microbiology students - a position that entrusted me with the association’s finances. A meritorious award for my display of excellent management skill was awarded to me by the association at the end of my tenure in office in 2012.

I love a quote which goes thus: 'if you want to evolve, be involved!' I always want to be involved in decision-making in every capacity I find myself. This qualities of mine did not go unnoticed by my previous employer: Peter Maritime Consulting Services Ltd., who sponsored me for a training on seaworthiness in Dubai, UAE. My passion for management has spurred me to becoming a chartered fellow of Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM) in 2013.

My work experience, over the last 5 years, as a Customer Relationship Manager in a vast and leading Commercial Bank in Nigeria (Polaris Bank Plc.) has ushered me into the field of management. My role as a Supervisor at Polaris Bank Contact Center entails Customer Experience Management, Feedback and Measurement, Branding/Brand Reputation Management amongst others. In discharging my duties, I have performed tasks, either individually or as part of a team, which has helped the organization in taking decisions which directly aid its Human Capital Management’s goals.

I am passionate about pursuing a degree in Masters of communication Management because I want to improve my academic qualification and also apply it in my organization and daily business. I believe that my academic qualification, Management certification as a chartered member of Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM) and work experience has equipped me for this course.

I have over five years’ work experience with the reputable organizations. I am the contact Center supervisor at a leading financial institution in Nigeria (Polaris Bank Limited) and I am also the Team Lead, Social Media Team for the Bank with direct responsibilities to the Executive Director. Masters in Communication Management would give me the required knowledge to improve my output at work, enhance my communication skill as my job entails interacting and engaging both internal and external customers on all social media platforms. 

I actually decided to make University of Southern California my first choice because the institution provides opportunities that are highly conducive for learning. Based on my research, I have also found out that their professors are not just excellent scholars and researchers, but also current practitioners in the most advanced aspect of communication management. I am especially looking forward to the opportunity of working with the likes of Professors whose Journals/Research so much interests me. As my essay indicates, University of Southern California is an ideal place for me to continue my research training. It is equipped with the technology, expertise, and resources in the methods I hope to explore. I would also be interested in working with seasoned professors in the department and as someone who wishes to develop skills in several methods and who enjoys interdisciplinary study and group work, it is of utmost importance that I find myself in such an environment. Most Importantly, University of Southern California places an emphasis on student research, which is a top priority for me. I am convinced beyond doubt that University of Southern California has got all contrivances to equip me for success in my aspirations. For these reasons, I am eager about the possibility of continuing my research and education at this university.
