This essay is about my dream college - OSU. I am indescribably awestruck with The Ohio State University (OSU). The first aspect of the university that caught my eye was its remarkable diversity. All of my life, I have attended public schools where the majority of the students were of African-American descent like me. As I was researching colleges, I knew that I did not want to be mashed into the same type of environment, but I also did not want to be part of a tiny minority on campus. I love how OSU makes sure that every ethnic group is represented on campus. In the college guides, no group is listed with a “0%” next to it. I want to join that type of diverse community.
OSU has a beautiful, immense campus that is just calling my name! With all of its dining options, exercise facilities, and parks, there is no way that anyone could not be impressed. The campus is so modern and unique, yet also traditional -- it reminds me of the college campuses portrayed in movies and television shows.
The key motivator in my decision was the school’s inclusiveness. I initially wanted to attend a small- or medium-sized university, and we all know that OSU is neither of those things. I was also afraid of leaving my hometown and going to another state without knowing a soul. I did not want to be a loner or just another number in a school with over 41,000 undergraduates. I do not have these fears, however, when I think of OSU. I feel like becoming a Buckeye would be an initiation into a new family, and I would take the same pride in being a Buckeye that I take in being a Buckson (my family name).
At OSU, I am interested in becoming a pharmacy student. Unlike other universities with so-called “2-4” programs in pharmacy, OSU has a “4-4” program that takes eight years to complete. Everyone says I am crazy to go to OSU since it will take me two extra years to earn the same degree. I am not concerned with the extra two years, however, because they would be two years of happiness and pleasure and pride. The opportunity to spend eight years at OSU rather than six at some other university would be an honor and a treat, and no one can tell me otherwise. I am determined to be a Buckeye and I will let nothing get in my way! O-H-I-O!
