My Impact on My Surroundings: College Admission Essay Sample

Having a positive, caring impact on people is a priority in my life, and I pride myself on being friendly and approachable, no matter the situation. These traits are important not just socially, but also in team environments. I believe that in order to be a productive team, a bond should exist between team members, and I strive to create that cohesion. This ability to bring others together to accomplish a task is something I value.My focus on teamwork extends to all areas of my life. In theatre, to ensure a successful show, cast members must have chemistry, which can be created through bonding. In hockey, teamwork is even more critical, because one player, no matter how skilled, cannot win a game on their own. The value of teamwork is apparent across many disciplines, and I love being able to promote it with my friendly disposition and leadership. Naturally, my outgoing nature is a social benefit as well. As a freshman, I looked up to the seniors-- especially those who took time to interact with me and make me feel welcome at a new school. Since then, my goal has been to be that “really cool senior” that everyone feels comfortable talking to. At the beginning of this year, I was selected for VistaCrew, a group of seniors who dedicate their time to making freshmen feel welcome and promoting inter- and intra-grade relationships. Throughout our activities, I got to know a lot of the freshmen, many of whom now often come up to me in the hallways to greet me between classes, which I love! I always strive to be approachable, and I think by doing so I’ve accomplished my goal, and I probably have just as many, if not more friends outside my senior class as in it.
