My Interest In Oil And Gas Management Program

The discovery of significant oil and gas accumulations in 2007 and the commencement of production of the Jubilee field in November 2010 as reported by Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) were the most significant events in the Oil & Gas sector. The discovery news was a joyous moment for every Ghanaian. Eyes beamed with new hope while tears streamed down faces. I believed it was the beginning of a new dawn for socioeconomic growth and development in the country. At that moment, my interest was sparked to be part of the industry success story. The numerous opportunities in oil and gas research, production and distribution, safety regulations and its management only propelled my interest further.

I have followed every Oil and Gas news with devotion and keen interest. Also, attended career fairs in which Total Ghana participated and have partaken in various oil and gas aptitude tests organized by BOST (Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited), etc. all in an effort to find a niche in the industry in which I can use my problem-solving skills to increase productivity. I believe with an open mind and a thirst to provide lasting solutions to management problems, I am ready to be equipped with the necessary skill- set needed to manage the oil and gas industry efficiently. With a working experience for over three years in the educational, banking and technology sectors I believe I am ready to pursue higher education in order to expand my knowledge base through meaningful engagement with diversified course mates. This will enable me to implement management policies that will enable the Ghanaian economy to derive the maximum benefit from oil and gas. In Ghana, there is a general notion that the oil and gas sector is too dangerous and cumbersome for women, therefore women are not encouraged to work in managerial positions. The sector is highly dominated by men. I believe that women are highly capable of handling managerial positions in the oil and gas sector when equipped with the necessary skill set. 

I believe the Oil and Gas Management Program offered at UNICAF is the best program for me in order to achieve these goals. The online program is a suitable choice for me because it gives me the flexibility to choose a timetable that will be convenient for me. Also, it alleviates living and accommodation expenses associated with traveling outside the country for a master's program. As the first female child in my family to attain a degree out of seven children, I would be very grateful if my financial aid will be met to enable me to undertake the master's program. As an advocate for girls' child education, I believe my pursuit to attain higher education in order to contribute meaningfully to the society will serve as an encouragement to other young ladies to pursue their dreams no matter the obstacles they might face on the success journey.
