As PLME (Program in Liberal Medical Education) implements the core concepts of the open curriculum, I am encouraged to pursue my diverse interests in humanities, sciences, and interdisciplinary studies in depth even as I plan for a career in medicine. When I see Brown offering an unrestricted education, I appreciate how devoted it is to an all-inclusive experience, and when I discover the sheer amount of student groups available, I realize that it meets every one of my desires, and I am not an “anomaly”. When crafting my Brown supplemental application, I seized the opportunity to delve into my passions and how I can become a professional due to studying at Brown open curriculum program.
As an undergraduate, I will have the liberty to choose to work toward any degree in any of the departmental and interdepartmental majors offered at the Brown. I am delighted that during the undergraduate portion, the summer season would be free to be utilized for building my foundations for a medical degree by pursuing an independent investigation, electives, or laboratory research work.
Additionally, what makes Brown my top choice to pursue accelerated medicine is that during the Medical School years, I can opt for an advanced degree alongside my M.D. degree. Because I plan to enroll in a Ph.D. program, PLME at Brown would be instrumental in achieving these goals I set for myself.
The Warren Alpert Medical School provides many opportunities specifically for PLME students, which I would utilize to my advantage and try to train myself to become better equipped as a physician. Firstly, with the excellent opportunities to engage in a research project collaborating with Brown’s faculty members, I would carry out my research at a Brown-affiliated hospital and work very closely with patients from the beginning. Moreover, the numerous fellowships available in various destinations around the globe would enable me to be impactful at an international level.
Moreover, I want to be involved in activities at the RICCAP even before my medical years start. I long for the annual career night event that will produce the opportunity for me to engage with lots of people and hear about their stories in child psychiatry.
Brown considers multicultural aspects as pivotal to the success of the medical school by enhancing educational recognition, nurturing outreach in patient care, and enriching confidence in research. Thus, I will contribute my perspectives and culture in the medical community. I will introduce the ‘Pakistani’ opinions in discussions to make them more relatable and implementable at a global level.
I have already done some research on aging for my Breakthrough Junior Challenge video, and the Scholarly Concentration in Aging, supervised by Dr. Lynn McNicoll and Dr. Iva Neupane, is of particular interest to me. I would explore clinical issues related to elderly people and publish scholarly papers on their solutions.
In all, studying PLME at Brown University open curriculum program would be my stepping stone for future success as a physician. Not only would I be able to learn from leading doctors, but from those who are currently performing research and will share their discoveries in lectures and tutorials. This would truly make my medical education well-rounded and more relatable to the new up-to-date innovative medicine.
