My Motivation To Enroll In The Data Science Department At Northeastern University

There are numerous factors for which a person can be categorized into which status he belongs to. I would consider Education as the first and the foremost factor. Having education from a University comprising of high standards is very much (certainly) different from an ordinary university. To have education from such universities a person should have zeal and curious enough to learn new things. Curiosity is the foremost attribute that drives a person to learn new things. From my childhood, one of the trait which drove me to this position is my robust zeal. My passion, dedication, and interest in every piece of work I perform enabled me to acquire significant knowledge on various aspects of technology, as well as leading me through a successful educational career.

With my eyes set on my goals, I took up mathematics and physical-science in my pre-university course. I used to outdo in academics right from my school days. I used to actively participate in Science and Mathematics Olympiads conducted in our school. I have consistently been allured to subjects that rely on one’s analytical abilities such as Mathematics and Physics. After my schooling, it was high time that I had to choose a major for my undergraduate studies. My intense interest in Mathematics and Physics made me choose Engineering out of all the other majors. A tough aptitude, a sense of logic, splendid academic record, and a good state rank secured me a place in Vardhaman College of Engineering, Hyderabad. It is an Autonomous College, affiliated to J.N.T.U Hyderabad. I have chosen Electronics and Communication Engineering as my stream and the college has given me a wide range of opportunities to enhance theoretical and practical knowledge.

In today’s world, having knowledge in electronics together with computer science is of great advantage. It is not the case that computer scientists program and electronics engineers design, but it is the joint effort of both of them which produces an efficient and useful system. I visualized the beauty of computer science in my undergraduate course after studying subjects like C, Data Structures, Java, and Computer Networks. To be able to face the intense competition, I have kept myself abreast of the changes in the latest technologies by attending workshops and reading newspapers.

Throughout my undergraduate program, I have participated in various technical fests in and out of college. I always enjoy the practical aspects of my studies, and that is one of the reasons why my marks in practical examinations are high. Carrying forward the exuberance in doing practical’s, me along with 3 other friends have worked on a project named “Persistence of Vision” for which we have been awarded 2nd prize for our diligent and unique work. It is a coalition of both Computer Programming and usage of Microcontrollers. From this point onwards I have perceived how Computer Programming can greatly impact the new trend in technologies. Apart from technical work, I used to participate actively in extracurricular activities such as Managerial work. During my third year in the undergraduate program, I along with my friends organized a technical fest which was acclaimed as the best one based on reviews of college students who attended the fest.

During the final year of my undergraduate degree, I have received an internship opportunity at Cloud4C Services Private Limited which is an Indian based company. I have been trained on various technologies during the internship period such as Virtualization, Networking, Linux, AWS, Azure and SAP. Post internship I have been selected as a full-time employee. Currently, I am working as an Associate SAP Engineer. My interest in Cloud Technologies grew during my internship period, which made me acquire a Microsoft Certificate as an Associate Azure Administrator.

We people at Cloud4C used to handle large amounts of data every day and process it. Our basic work was to maintain server health and do maintenance activities on physical and virtual servers as well as provide SAP BASIS support to clients. During this tenure, I understood that just Infrastructure support i.e., collecting data and storing it does not do well in near future, but needs to be analyzed as well and put forth some results to the clients. In this way, my curiosity for Data Analytics has started. I have done a lot of research on Data analytics and found out that it is an amalgamation of Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, and Computer Programming. As I have a profound interest in Mathematics, I feel that I will have a lot of curiosity to learn about the future in Data Analytics. In order to reach this goal, I thought that pursuing a Master’s degree in Data Analytics is the best way.

Northeastern University, Boston holds the key to my future and I am fully convinced that it would be an amazing experience to study here. At Northeastern, I hope to get an opportunity to meet top management and gain hands-on experience by doing a major project. I have chosen Northeastern University because it is reputable for its research facilities and analytical resources. The department web site revealed a very strong faculty involved in extensive research in the area of Data Science. This has strengthened my resolve to study at Northeastern University. I believe that it would be the right environment for me to achieve my goals and gather experience and exposure to a varied student body and faculty.

Encapsulating all written above, I believe that my serious intention for study, my projects and my strong academic background in various areas will be beneficial for my graduate studies. Attending your esteemed institution would give me an opportunity to receive high-level education under the guidance of prominent professors and excellent students. I would regard my admission to Data Science Department at Northeastern University, Boston not only as a great honor but also as a great responsibility and a challenge to prove myself.
