I am Shivam Ajitkumar Mehta, 25 years old from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in India. I have completed my (BA. LLB) (Honours) degree from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 2016. I have worked as an intern for 2 months in each semester ( total 10 semester) in different departments throughout entire University career. I am presently enrolled in the Master of Global Business at Monash University, in Melbourne, Australia. I was attracted to the Berkeley Hass Global Access Program (BHGAP) offered by Berkeley to get an undergraduate education. I found it to be a very dynamic and creativity-based program. I have selected this course because I want to explore the field of management to achieve my goal of being an entrepreneur and use my expertise to be a leader in business. So I am passionate about getting my second Bachelor's degree, at this time at the Haas School of Business.
After graduating in May 2016, I worked for Pearl Ice a company that deals in pharmaceutical products. I worked in the Marketing Department and was involved in training new employees and teaching them different marketing strategies. Over the two years at Pearl Ice, I became the Marketing Executive of the Marketing and Sales Department. During these 2 years that I spent in the company, I got to understand how management teams work and what kinds of services they provide. It was during this time that I became fascinated and motivated to pursue a career in business. In June 2018, I became a silent partner/consultant in a travel business (Galaxy Tours and Travels) furthering my interest in business. After talking to various people who have worked in this field, I felt that a Master of Global Business was important for me in helping me achieve my goal of pursuing business both domestically and internationally. It is through this Bachelor's program that I am now applying for the BHGAP program at the University of California, Berkeley.
Berkeley Haas School of Business is one of the most prestigious business schools in the world. Enrolling in the BHGAP will give me the opportunity to experience studying business in the USA. There are some important reasons as to why I am applying to undertake this program. Firstly, the program deals with the units related to entrepreneurship and innovation. This program will help prepare me to start up my own business. It will also give me the chance to visit Bay Area companies and understand how they function. It will also give me an opportunity to work in one of the Bay Area companies to gain valuable experience before I commence my own business.
The BHGAP program will help to further strengthen my individual business skills. It will help me in developing advanced and vital skills in problem solving, research and communication. Skills to help you manage in an international business environment. The program also provides me with the possibility of optional practical training after I graduate from the program. The units offered in the program are the exact units I want to study. The units include Design Thinking, Innovation Strategies, Thriving at Haas, all of which will help me prepare for successful entrepreneurial career. To study at The University of California, Berkeley is like a dream come true.
I am interested in pursuing further education in innovation and entrepreneurship in order to start and grow my own business and make it a success. I feel that the BHGAP will give me the entrepreneurial skills to help me achieve this goal. Moreover, if I get an opportunity to put my skills at work with companies based in California, it will give me an excellent exposure and knowledge that I can then use to better plan my own business. Hence, the BHGAP program in California would be of great value and add great deal to my personal and professional development.
Apart from studies, I would also like to take part in volunteering and joining the student communities and participating in management related programs. Moreover, I would like to participate in case competitions. I would also find a chance to get involved in professional and sports clubs. I would also like to act as a mentor for future students from the Global Business and other programs who would be looking to enrol in the BHGAP. I am sure this course will provide me with ideas, insights and opportunities that will help me pursuing my own career goals once I graduate. I admire that this learning does not stop at the classroom but continues through relationships that are built with classmates, professors and alumni of the HAAS school of Business. The University of California, Berkeley has one of the strongest alumni networks in the United States. Thus, it is my most preferred destination to pursue this program.
I look forward to hearing positively from you with regards my application to join the BHGAP in 2020.
Regards,
Shivam Ajitkumar Mehta
