From a tender age, curiosity has always had the better part of me. My curiosity is anchored on understanding why things work the way they do and whether there is a way around improving the same. It is for this reason that I felt really proud when my son asked me “What makes plants grow taller?” While the question came as a shocker, seeing that I did not expect my son’s reasoning to have grown to that extent, I saw a great part of me in him. My curiosity has harnessed me to be ambitious and a go getter.
Besides having the desire to gain knowledge, I also love sharing my knowledge with others. In response to my son’s inquisitive nature, I have taught him many basic science concepts through science experiments. The teaching experience with my son propelled me to sign up as a science coach at North South Foundation (NSF). I have always looked for innovative ways to explain science. I conducted magic shows with my son where we utilized science and math ideas only. My work at NSF is voluntary and the money collected is channeled towards funding education for the less fortunate. Additionally, I am a seventh grade Sunday school teacher at Church. As a Sunday school teacher, my goal is to positively impact the society by imparting morals and virtues to the kids.
Through my career, I have performed the duties of a senior engineer, lead engineer, architect, and senior architect. Through these roles, I learned how complex systems are designed and the part of such design decisions in shaping an organization's business capability. I am a two-time winner and a 3-time finalist in our organization's most prestigious innovation competition. Through these competitions, I presented several new business ideas and opportunities, and three of them resulted in full-fledged products that attest to my earlier statement. Skills gained from all these roles will go a long way in assisting me in accomplishing the iMBA program. To start with, through my career, I have learned to be patient and appreciate processes. Like in the work place, an iMBA program has a due process aimed at ensuring effective and efficient instillation of knowledge. My patience skills will assist me to appreciate and trust the process from the beginning to the end. Secondly, my career has taught me self-discipline. Self-discipline ensures that I do what is expected of me without any external force pushing me. Unlike contemporary classroom programs, online programs like the one I seek to pursue require the student to have much more self-discipline (Ni, 2013).
Thirdly, through my career, I have gained communication and collaboration skills which harness proper relations with other people. All these will assist me in my iMBA program by enabling me to be a good team player. As a result, these skills will enable me to successfully accomplish tasks requiring me to work with others. Further, I have gained great creativity and innovation skills through my career. I realize that part of the learning process will entail problem solving. On this end, my creativity and innovation skills will be of great help.
Pursuing an MBA will go a long way in enhancing the attainment of my career goal of being a Chief Technology Officer. Chief Technology officers play a vital role in the integration of technological innovation and advancement with the core business objectives. Knowledge and skills gained from an MBA will enable me to effectively execute this role. By pursuing an MBA I will gain vital leadership skills. Leadership skills are a necessity for a Chief Technology Officer seeing that he/she is the leader of an organization’s division. Further, knowledge and skills gained from the MBA program will enable me to diligently perform my roles as a Chief Technology Officer by capitalizing on the merits of change while mitigating its adverse effects.
Pursuing an MBA will also catapult me towards strategic thinking. As a Chief Technology Officer, I will be part of the organization’s top management and be involved in the management roles of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Effectively and efficiently performing these roles in line with the organization’s set objectives requires strategic thinking. Further, an MBA education will propel my teamwork and problem solving skills. As a Chief Technology Officer, it is essential to have impeccable teamwork and problem solving skills. These skills enable Chief Technology Officers to ensure collaborative effort is employed in performing tasks and that any challenge that arises is properly tackled.
