Improving my human capital has always been a fantasy but pursuing a Degree Programme in Adult Nursing at the University is a dream come true. The zeal and courage to elevate myself academically is entrenched in my personal, academic and professional experiences. Personally I consider nursing to be a career of continuous professional development (CPD) that you never stop learning and training. My aspiration to become a Nurse is derived from my work experience in geriatric care nursing, being a health care assistant (HCA) for more than 5 years. During this time of working, I was opportune to assist residents of diverse background and sickness in the care setting of my job description such as in Nursing and Residential homes, domiciliary field, and semi mental health units. Nonetheless, I have a wealth of experience as a health care assistant (HCA) such as: good communication skills, team work, problem solving, and leadership skills. My continuous working in the health care sector till date has proving my passion of caring for the vulnerable and less privilege people in the society. The above ramification has motivated me to do level 3 diploma in adult care which has brought me to the path of becoming a nurse.
I believe a degree in nursing would certainly be a rewarding course for me to complete both in a personal and professional way. This programme would certainly provide me with an array of opportunities as well as a career option. It would certainly provide me with professional independence where i can easily work with autonomy.
In addition, I possess pre-requisites gained from my job that has developed in me such as: inter-personal skills, critical thinking skills, communication skills, organisational and leadership skills and above all, I am a good listener and fast learner. Furthermore, the above listed skills make me become a suitable prospective adult nursing candidate with aspiration to perform a total unique function of a nurse to assist people, sick or well, in the performance of activities contributing to health or its improvement, that they would perform unaided if they had the necessary strength, will or knowledge to do them personally.
Regarding my academic potentials, I am currently studying the functional skills in English and Mathematics and Access to Higher Education, and I am currently studying a Level three in Health and social Care.
I possess some attributes that would certainly qualify me to be chosen for this program. This allege statement is made because, I have completed my access course in health and social care thus providing me with good understanding of the role nurses play and their job description in the health care setting. Furthermore, the course module I choose will certainly help me to navigate in the degree programme in adult nursing. However, I have developed an overall understanding of basic concepts, terminologies and principles which are mostly used in this prospective programme I am about to enrolled in.
I have equally learned a wide range of academic and basic clinical techniques used for determining different solutions for a certain problem from my current job and the course I undertook. Apart from the discreet pre-requisites I hold, others attributes as I possess as an individual who is ready to take the academic challenge is that, I am a serious, objective and a self-disciplined person, who make distinction between inconsequential and paramount issues.
Positioning myself as someone with a wealth of experience, I am capable of working in a team using an interdisciplinary approach, whereby I go with the flow by adjusting and adapting not only to new environments but easily mingle and adjust in a diverse work force. These untamed qualities of mine, will without doubt, be very instrumental in me pursuing a Degree programme in Nursing at the University.
