Northwestern, A Perfect Fit: College Admission Essay Sample

Stellar academics. A gorgeous campus. Endless opportunities. Northwestern University is the epitome of these three qualities. I do not know whether it was the top-ranked academics or the luscious campus which attracted me to this university; however, I do know that I fell in love the day I toured the campus. Was it a beautiful girl? No. Perhaps it was the picturesque Northwestern University Lakefill? Not quite. How about the intellectual diversity which is accentuated by the extensive variety of subjects offered? Bingo!

One characteristic which initially caught my attention was the strong emphasis on scholarly perfection. Many universities have strengths in certain areas, and weaknesses in others. Northwestern, on the other hand, has strengths in every category, and lacks any weaknesses altogether. This is an important characteristic to me because while I have an inclination in studying a science-related field, I still want to try a little bit of everything. Northwestern will allow me to explore my options and allow me to reach my full potential as a student. While it is essential to assess the overall academic performance of a university, it is also important to consider the campus as well.

I will be spending the next four years of my life living in a place other than my own home. It is mandatory that a college campus attracts its prospective freshmen in one way or another. The first landmark that caught my eye was the Lakefill. From certain spots on the Lakefill, one can see a beautiful, unobstructed view of Chicago. Another prominent landmark at Northwestern is the rock. The rock serves as an icon of the Northwestern community. I noticed words and art written all over it. The writings on the rock represent the multitude of interests of all the students. I hope to add to this mixture of interests with my presence at Northwestern.

The Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences emphasizes the diversity of Northwestern. Weinberg represents students from all 50 states of the U.S., and several others from foreign countries. Weinberg is not only diverse in terms of the student body; it also offers a wide array of majors/minors. With so many options from which to choose, I can be sure to discover what type of occupation I wish to pursue in the future. In addition to the broad academic perspectives, Weinberg will also allow me to participate in many research opportunities. I hope to learn as much as I can throughout my undergraduate education, and I can accomplish this by being able to partake in the many research opportunities Weinberg offers.

All in all, I feel as though Northwestern University does a good job of catering towards my own values. It has a beautiful campus, which every prospective student wishes to be a part of. The academics are top-notch, which pushes students to reach their full potential. And Northwestern University, specifically Weinberg, opens up the doors to many fields of study. By being admitted to this superb university, I hope to meet others that share my infatuation with learning. Together, we can combine our strengths and pursue new discoveries.
