Nurse Goals: Becoming an Obstetrician Gynecologist Nurse Practitioner.

The main goal of my life right now is to become an Obstetrician Gynecologist Nurse Practitioner. And in the "Nursing career goals" essay I will share personal nurse goals examples.

According to the Department of Labor Occupational Information Network the definition of an obstetrician gynecologist as a “physician who provide medical care related to pregnancy or childbirth and those who diagnose, treat and help prevent diseases of women particularly those affecting the reproductive system”. Nurse practitioners “diagnose and treat acute, episodic, or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team”. An obstetrician gynecologist nurse practitioner is often referred to as an OBGNP and focuses on the female’s sexual and reproductive well-being from adolescence to advanced age. The growth of personal development helped me to define my career goal, think critically about how to reach my goal and be realistic about what it will take in order to achieve this profession in the pursuit of a career as an obstetrician gynecologist nurse practitioner.

Since the age of thirteen I’ve known I wanted to be in healthcare field and wanted something to do with helping women give birth. As I got older, I became more interested in the health and protection of women’s reproductive system due to it being very much more complex than the male’s. This story is needed to be written in “My goal is to become a nurse” essay. The process I took to decide that an OBGNP was the right fit for me took a little longer than others, which is a reason I joined the Air Force. I didn’t want to take out student loans for a career I wasn’t too sure about. Over the years I took multiple assessments for the right career for me including the Holland Code Survey and for the most part I received the investigative career field to be the best fit. Investigative career fields are for individuals who like to think, observe, organize and understand information.

I have learned throughout my 21 years of life that no matter how much you see and plan your life to be a certain way, life has its own plans for you. An OBGYN is an actual doctor that caters to the female reproductive health and an OBGNP would be able to do most of the attributes that the physicians does but without doctor in front of their name. It is my belief that a nurse practitioner would give me a healthy balance of my professional and personal life. I want to have a very successful career without having to compromise the time I spend with family and friends. Having conversations with my gynecologist who is also an OBGNP has reassured me that this is the perfect career field for me to go into. She told me why she became interested in this career field, the process it took her and how much she enjoys what she does on a daily basis.

In order to become an obstetrician nurse practitioner, I would first have to become a registered nurse. Within career goals examples for nursing it's needed to mention that a nurse practitioner is a specialty that would require additional schooling in an NP program. There are a good amount of schools who offer NP schooling including some online courses. I plan on staying in the Air Force at least I become an OBGYNP because of the scholarships, programs and tuition assistance it offers. My plan is to use tuition assistance to pay for my AS in pre-nursing, apply for an Air Force program known as Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program (NECP) which would allow me to go to a nursing school as a full time student and afterwards commission as a registered nurse. After completing this program and becoming a commissioned officer in the Air Force as a registered nurse, I would use an Air Force sponsored master’s degree program to become an OBGNP. If I don’t get into this program, I will continue to use tuition assistance and go to nursing school to obtain my BS in nursing and then take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) to obtain the title as registered nurse. After doing a nursing residency and doing weekend jobs for a year or two, I would use tuition assistance again to go to NP school all while on active duty.

In conclusion to my career goals essay, my plan is to become an obstetrician gynecologist nurse practitioner isn’t the most straightforward and time efficient plan. Doing this assignment has made me realize this will take multiple years, patience and hard work. This has not deterred me of reaching my dreams, if only it has gave me ammunition to keep pursuing for a career I know I will love to do every day. I dream big but my follow through will be even bigger.
