Becoming a nurse has been a long journey for me and now I am practicing as a registered nurse for over one year. I cannot imagine how much I have grown to develop professionally but mostly individually. I love challenging work because I will never stop learning new things every day. Becoming a family nurse practitioner is something I want to achieve in my life because it would be a major challenge and accomplishment. I would like to become a nurse practitioner this attend an FNP program where I will receive a great education to advance my practice, become more confident at what I am doing to prepare me an essential knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience on my journey of becoming an FNP. I would be elated to receive the news of my acceptance into the nurse practitioner program, as it paves the way for me to advance my clinical skills and provide comprehensive care to patients in need.
During my last semester in nursing school in 2018, I spent 135 hours during my capstone experience at Sumner Regional Hospital Medical Center working with one primary preceptor in the areas of Emergency Department, Perioperative, Obstetrics, and Acute Care. As a nurse at a medical and surgical step-down unit at the hospital, I had the opportunity to work with a large patient population and many health care providers. I have seen patients coming in with diabetic ketoacidosis with noncompliant to home medication. Seven months old baby was brought to the emergency room due to aspiration that could have been prevented with proper education if her parents had a primary care provider. I also have seen patients coming in with COPD exacerbation who refused to quit smoking and wear oxygen at home. These patients gave me the thought that if they were able to access to healthcare and resources, those unpredictable circumstances would have been prevented in our community.
My goal is to work in a primary care clinic where I can get my patients interested and caring about their health by building a great relationship with them and support them in many ways. As a family nurse practitioner, I will use my knowledge and skills as I learned as a nurse while extending my scope of practice to treat them from the beginning of their sickness until their healing. I chose Simmons university to pursue the FNP program because I have done a lot of research and found out that Simmons has a great online FNP program that provides live lectures and this will give me the opportunities to interact with my professor and the classmates for questions and answers. Simmons also provides clinical placement specialists that will help to find the clinical site for me. I truly like the ideas of these and I have faith that with everything Simmons provides that will allow me to stay on tracks and be successful. I strongly believe that Simmons will prepare me to pass boards and be excellent in the nurse practitioner field.
