Having a desire to become a nurse it is the same of having a knowledge and be aware of nights without sleep, nerve-racking cases and non-stop education. In a few words there is a need to understand that it is maybe one of the hardest career path to chose. This is one of the essays “Why I want to be a nurse” and in this narrative essay on why I want to be a nurse I will answer this question and reveal my passion in helping and caring about others. So I want to be a nurse, because I want to do more with my life than just have an ordinary 9:00-5:00 job. To me, nursing is much more than an ordinary career job. The profession needs nurses who are able to show compassion and dignity to the people they are caring for, and not just have a get-the-job-done type of attitude. To be able to give patients the very best care that they deserve, I believe that a nurse should also be committed to revisiting topics and studies over concepts they learned in school, as well as learning new things, in order to go above and beyond their care requirements. This is why I want to be a nurse; I know that through nursing, I have the opportunity and the ability to use these skills mentioned above. These two traits are personally important to me and my lifestyle, and I know that the best way I can incorporate these into my vocation is through nursing.

Compassion

I believe that the definition of compassion applies well to the vocation of nursing, as nurses must have a concern for ailing people, followed by a want to help them get back to health. It requires more than just taking care of the physical needs of our patients. We must also be consciously aware of and take care of the emotional needs that the patient has, in addition to his physical needs. Sometimes, the procedure they were told they would need to get better can be like listening to a foreign language, making them scared and in need of a better explanation. We as nurses have the ability to calm their fears just by taking a couple of minutes to discuss in simple terms what the procedure is, how it will benefit them, as well as answer any questions they have. It is a small task, one that we probably do not think twice about, but to them it could be the world. These actions put trust in the nurse, and the patient is treated emotionally in addition to physically.

Continuance of Learning

In order to best serve patients, I believe that it is fundamental to nursing practice to keep up to date on current medical issues, treatments, and studies on how to promote health and prevent health issues from occurring. Within this essay why I want to be a nurse it's needed to mention that because nursing needs people who are able to think critically and apply concepts to real life situations, a good way to make sure we can meet these needs is to be knowledgeable of the latest updates to the medical world. If we stay up to par with the most recent studies and findings related to common occurrences in hospitals and clinics, the opportunity to provide better care becomes available, and it benefits both the patient’s health and nurse’s practice.

Conclusion

To end up the reason to be a nurse essay, being a nurse is a calling that is made up of many different pieces. All are important and add further uniqueness to the nursing profession, but the two that I have noticed the most in nursing school is compassion and continuing education. To be honest, I think that these two really go hand-in-hand. We can show our best compassion for a patient and all of their needs when we take the time to learn and know about just how to do that in the best, most efficient, and meaningful way for the patient.
