The sweet smell of hay and crisp air, some things I was going to miss the most. I took my remaining steps to the car heading to Latrobe Airport. Latrobe, a small town of no more than 8,000 people, was also my home. The quiet streets, the miles of rural land, and the chilly weather was all I had ever known. As the plane took off into the air, a glimpse of my home town and the memories I had made flashed before my eyes. Memories flooded through my head as tears streamed down. Living my whole life a certain way and leaving to start a new one was difficult for an upcoming junior in high school. After a long memorable flight, I will never forget flying over the coast of Florida and seeing the miles of lights and busy streets. After stepping off the plane, I knew my life was about to change drastically. At first, I was not used to the heavy traffic, the bold attitudes, and the extremely hot weather. I was starting my junior year of high school in less than a week. I had always been used to my small public high school, we had all grown up together.
Transferring to a private Catholic school located across the country was not an easy decision. I was anxious and in doubt of what Cardinal Gibbons had in store for me. I realized this was going to be a turning point in my life, and instead of looking at things negatively, I saw it as a new opportunity. After the long war between my head and my heart, I had finally built up enough courage to walk into my new high school with an open mind. When starting this new school, I wanted more out of it than just academics. I was eager to make new friends, join clubs, and help my community. In the beginning, I seemed quiet and off-standish. Having to belong to a group and seeing friends everyday, I was disheartened my first week at my new school. I felt alone more than anything. Eventually, a group of people made me feel right at home. Surrounding myself around these people made me grow into a well-rounded person. I experienced new things, gained more confidence, and exceeded my academic goals. The strength of the mind with faith and belief plays a very crucial role in being successful with whatever you may do.
Now it is my senior year. I am a different person with new life skills, ideas, experiences, and people supporting me. After experiencing numerous personal challenges, I owe it to my decision of being a small town girl moving to the big city of Fort Lauderdale. I know I will continue to grow as I start a new chapter in life with college.
