Ever since I first learned about Princeton University, I have been captivated by its rich history, rigorous academic environment, and commitment to fostering intellectual curiosity. As I embark on the journey of college admissions, I am drawn to Princeton University for its unparalleled opportunities and in this application essay I explore my academic passions, engage in meaningful research, and with to become a part of a vibrant and diverse community.
I obtained my National Diploma in Science Technology from Federal Polytechnic Nekede and my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nigeria. I have severally served as a course representative during my undergraduate. Serving in this capacity helped me develop communication and collaborative skills. Moreover, I realized that having good intellectual capacity is an asset on its own and with that I had so many friends around me most especially those that I helped to overcome their academic challenges through voluntary teaching. I was awarded the most outstanding female student in Science laboratory technology in 2014. Upon transfer to a university, I also volunteered to teach some of my course mates who find one or more courses hard to comprehend. I am currently doing my MSc program on epidemiology of infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance at the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom. I believe that my exposure to different learning environments gained in Nigeria and UK will make my participation in class discussions more innovative and interesting.
Furthermore, my involvement in the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme positively influenced my perspective about the peculiarities in peoples culture. The Nigerian government instituted this program to inculcate the spirit of selfless service while emphasizing the spirit of oneness in all Nigerian youths irrespective of cultural or social background to promote national unity. I was born and brought up in the south-east part of Nigeria, but during my NYSC program, I was deployed to the North-west, precisely, Jigawa state, which shares an international border with the Zinder Region in the Republic of Niger. This is the longest memorable journey I have ever embarked on in my entire life. The culture was parallel to mine. Still, having associated with different individuals in my multi-ethnic country, Nigeria, I am positive that being part of the Princeton University will contribute to having a diversified community, make class discussions more productive and group projects more creative. Members of my class will have more exposure to different approaches to solving problems as well as prepare them for work in a multi-cultural society.
Conclusively, this wealth of experience has prepared me for the future. I believe that beyond graduating from this amazing doctoral program, I will contribute towards bettering human life and well being through sharing input to curtailing infectious diseases. I believe that the only way to connect these dots looking behind is to move forward. I hope to look back someday and be happy that I will leave the world a better place than I met it.
I look forward to hearing more about this opportunity to explore the world at Princeton.
