The people in my community all looked and sounded like me, leading me to believe that this was the norm. However, everything changed when I entered high school. It was there that I had my first real exposure to diversity and it opened my eyes to the importance of inclusivity.

In my sophomore year, a new student named Aisha joined our class. Aisha was from Pakistan and had recently moved to the United States with her family. She was different from anyone I had ever met before, with a unique accent and unfamiliar customs. Initially, I felt hesitant and afraid to approach her. I questioned whether we would have anything in common or if we would be able to communicate effectively.

Despite my reservations, I decided to make an effort to get to know Aisha. I approached her one day during lunch and initiated a conversation. To my surprise, she was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We quickly discovered that we shared a love for literature and spent hours discussing our favorite books and authors.
