My open-mindedness, good sense of humor and diverse talents give me much to contribute to Boston University.
First, I am an open-minded person. I always have been courteous to people regardless of their backgrounds and personalities, and accepted their differences. Also, through many travels and living in England, Australia, and now in America, I gained a broad view toward different cultures and the world. This personal trait always benefited me in various ways, such as getting accustomed to foreign cultures, foods, and learning languages, and eventually helped me to get used to unfamiliar or uncomfortable aspects of American life. For example, homosexuality is an acceptable issue in America but can be a quite unbearable idea to certain people who are either Catholic or from countries where it is almost considered a sin. Unfortunately, I am both Catholic and from one of the countries. However, I have never had a problem with it; although I was initially shocked to learn that two of my neighbors were gay, I kept friendship with them anyway until the day I moved. Now, I don’t even bother to be shocked to know gay people in my school; I talk to them and become friends with them. Therefore, if I get accepted, I will be a great member of Boston University because I will get along with everyone well in such a diverse community and learn new and different things quickly and smoothly, thereby contributing diversity back to the school.
Second, I am funny. My friends miss me when they are bored, and say they are “good” as long as they are with me. Although I tend to be shy, my humorous personality is always dominant over my timidity, which helps me to socialize with people. I remember when I first met my flutist friend in my instrumental music class. He talked to me first during break time, and said he had been playing flute since he was in fourth grade. I said “Oh, wow, you’ve been playing for a long time! ….........Can’t count, but that’s long!” He burst out laughing, and so did I. Ever since then, he has been one of my best friends. Therefore, I can contribute to Boston University by sharing my sense of humor with people and lighten the atmosphere of the campus.
Lastly, I am multi-talented. I have always done my schoolwork diligently, but never thought that it was “everything” that should occupy my life. I am very passionate about music, especially playing the violin, although I don’t pursue to be a professional musician. Also I am a devoted skier; I never stayed one winter without going to ski. Besides playing the violin and skiing, I swim, play tennis, and play the piano. Since I do many different things, I always have something to do and keep myself busy; I am never bored of my life. I can use all my talents for Boston University to expand its diversity and help musical and athletic organizations in the school to be more productive.
