The genesis of my intense interest in education, an interest which has now evolved into an aspiration and a pursuit for a career in the field of healthcare, happened during my undergraduate studies. It is of popular belief that education is one of the pillars upon which stands the success of a society. I have always been focused on pursuing a career in healthcare from a very young age. So in the “Why choose healthcare as a career” essay I will explain the reason for it, my academic path and goals for future studies.

Ever since I was a little girl, I had dreams of doing it big and that’s when I knew I couldn't disappoint myself. My goal is to make an income while making an impact. Throughout my studies, I've absorbed many ideas and concepts showing how health managers create effective programs that result in high quality health services. I've eventually come to realize how health managers play central and critical role in improving access and quality of health care for the population. Having pursued my under graduation degree in Bachelors of Dental Surgery, my interest in Healthcare sector grew a lot. My father is an Ophthalmologist, he also inspired me to work in healthcare sector as he used to organize healthcare camps for free. The Role of Healthcare Managers fascinated me the most, how They provide essential services that promote health and deliver health care services to healthcare organizations for smooth functioning of the system. As I have done my graduation in dentistry, I am not that specialized in this sector.Therefore, in order to pursue my career in this sector, I desire to do Msc in Health Management to take on a broader role in healthcare system.

Within why do you want to pursue a career in healthcare essay I need to mention that curiosity has been a strong trait in me since my early childhood days. This inquisitiveness has always kept me ahead in class. I did my High school studies from Doon International School (Affiliated with CBSE), Mohali in 2010 with CGPA: 8.8. My Secondary Study in Medical Stream was from Divine Light International School (Affiliated with CBSE), Fatehgarh Sahib in 2012 with 69.2%.Then I took admission in Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2012.I completed my graduation in April 2018 with 60.3%.

Apart from academics, I was also involved in many extracurricular activities for overall personality development. In school, I was a member of The Bharat Scouts and Guides. I've also been actively taking part in sports activities since school days and through college. I played Foosball at District level in which I came 3rd.I also took part in various theatre plays in school days. Debates helped me share ideas and thoughts with my peer group. I have still not figured out if this were to tame the child in me or my teachers saw a leadership potential in me. However, it has helped me evolve and grow as a responsible individual. I have also completed NIVEAU A1 in French language. During college days as well, I was a member of Organizing and Managing Committee. I also volunteered in various health camps in order to raise mass awareness about health and the importance of regular health checkups in rural parts or where easy access to healthcare was difficult. I am also a member of Jaago (an NGO), Fatehgarh Sahib which is involved in social activities like awareness about HIV, Tuberculosis Control Program, Save Girl Child, Awareness about abuse of Drugs, Blood Donation Camps etc.

To continue why choose healthcare as a career essay, after my graduation I started doing survey about my course and colleges offering this in India , but the major drawback here is , the intake of this course occur only once a year and moreover there are only minimal number of universities having this course for which entry requirement is very high. Furthermore, in India education system consist more of theoretical knowledge and my course require more of practical knowledge. Firstly, I searched for my course in various famous universities of Australia, Canada , U.S. As a person that believes in discipline and gaining more knowledge, it persuaded me to look for an institution which provides world class education as well as an environment that drives the students in learning more and applying the knowledge in the real world. The main reason for studying in the U.S. is due to its unrivalled cultural diversity of life It gives you the chance to experience a multicultural environment, meet fellow international students and develop a range of skills that are necessary to be part of today's global workforce.

Once I decided to study in U.S., I then looked several universities in this country offering master’s program in Health Management.The programme provided by Duke University School of Medicine attracted me the most. The University offers an extensive placement programme and further options for career development. The knowledge and experience can give me plethora of options to work in healthcare sector and achieve my career goal, which is to be a Healthcare Managers to overcome organizational barriers, and effectively direct the future of health care systems. It will help me to develop my skills in critically analyzing theory policies and practice in health organizations and will help me to provide health facilities in impoverished areas. The programme in Duke University School of Medicine provides us with boundless expertise and experienced team which will help in taking the best that could be made out of it and will help to pursue programme of study that best suits my interest .

I feel that pursuing Msc in Health Management in Duke University School of Medicine will provide me an opportunity in implementing the leadership and managing skills acquired from your university. It will help me to take a holistic approach and provide innovative solutions that will help the healthcare industry and other broad range of areas and also deepen my expertise in the field. Since India is a developing country, after gaining some experience in the U.S., I have plans of working in various renowned hospitals in India like Fortis, Max , Apollo, at the post of health manager to find ways of better managing the hospital's structure or provide a plan of action in times of crisis. To end up why do you want to work in healthcare essay, I also plan on working under various organizations to promote welfare of the society and help my country in health sector for its betterment. I also believe studying in a diverse cultural environment like the one provided at the esteemed Duke University School of Medicine , I would be able to realize my potential and get onto a challenging career path. I do hope that in the near future, with the guidance of the experienced and learned faculty, I will be able to enhance my creative skills and learn how to strategically put them to use. I hope to provide my inputs too for better synergy among students and teachers from different cultural and social ethnicities.
