The decision to pursue an MBA at Benedictine University with a science background is probably one of the biggest ones I have ever made.
I graduated from Illinois State University with honors in Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science. Academically, I excelled at my core classes and possess a strong background in laboratory science as I also have an international Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of Nigeria. Both educations and my work experiences over the years in different countries (Nigeria and the United States) have equipped me with a background laboratory knowledge but my leadership skill will be more refined by enrolling in Benedictine university MBA program. Most graduate programs in universities are centered on candidates with scholastic and relevant experience (work and leadership) and Benedictine university is no exception.
Beyond my academic achievements, my work ethic and dedication are evident in my related experiences. I served as my class representative at the student faculty level which prepared me on public speaking and fostering relationship among students representative as we work together to uphold our faculty’s values and visions. Later during my junior year on campus, I became a member of the Rotaract club, where I had the opportunities to be involved in community services.
Before I relocated to the United States, I have worked as a Laboratory scientist for over three years.
I had realized my dream of becoming a scientist, but I also discovered that I wanted to go beyond the laboratory to manage innovative businesses. The question was how. I knew I wanted to continue to be involved in science, but needed to grow both professionally and personally. In laboratory science, one specializes and solves extremely specific and mostly complex problems. So as a problem solver, I realized that I needed to take a step forward and focus on the bigger picture which includes developing leadership skills, and understanding how innovation fits within a business. To do this, I need to develop my business and leadership skills, especially coming from an untraditional background in which I had not interacted with MBAs.
I decided that an MBA was the right path to do this, and Benedictine University emerged as the perfect place for me to take this bold step. I realize that this shift in my career is huge that I needed to find an immersive MBA, and Benedictine hybrid MBA became the answer. Acquiring dual specialties - in science and business, will be a boost in my future career.
I look forward to being a part of your student community.
