Why I Choose Information Management Master's Program

Modern businesses rely heavily on information systems, which is essential to an organization's effective management. With my extensive educational background in computers, I have become quite interested and skilled in this area. However, if I am to prepare myself for the challenges of a successful future career, I must combine my background in computers with further education in management. To enhance my business-related skills and obtain more business- and management-oriented education than computer-related education, I have chosen to bolster my undergraduate degree by studying a master's program in Management Information. I am also got intrigued to study this program from the experience I gained by organizing and managing various events and participating in technical meetings. I have selected this program to enhance and broaden my existing knowledge and abilities in the information systems. The program also enables me to acquire strong analytical and technical skills in the presence of the esteemed professors at the university to evaluate, outline, execute, and administer business information systems in a quick-changing business environment, across multiple organizations.

I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology. Until now, my bachelor's degree has otufitted me with concrete groundwork in computer science comprising both intellectual and practical understanding. I took elective courses related to business, economics, management, and marketing to satiate my desire to gain business-related skills. I thought that pursuing a business-and management-oriented education is essential to me rather than a strictly computer-based education. Therefore, by engaging in the Information Management master's program, I decided to build on my undergraduate education. I have put up excellent performance throughout my academic pursuit where I have always been in the top 10 in the class that resulted in getting outstanding marks in my board exams where I scored 95.3% in 12th standard and 90.6% in 10th standard. Having sound English language skills I obtained a score of 303 in GRE.

To enhance my technical knowledge, I learned various programming languages like C, C++, Java, and Python; Client/Server Web Technologies like HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, XML, Servlets, JSP, and Bootstrap; as well as Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Ubuntu Operating Systems. I am also proficient in MySQL, and Oracle database; and various software tools like Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Additionally, I also gained knowledge in Data Structures, Design and Analysis of Algorithms. As an avid learner, I completed Cambridge Business English Certificate [BEC] course from Cambridge Assessment English. I also did Software Project Management and Social Networks courses from NPTEL. My bachelor study was a richly rewarding experience during which I worked on a project namely, Approbation of Leaves with QR Code. This project aims to ease the leaves management and approval process as well as reduce human effort and improve security by determining an employee's amount of remaining leaves automatically.

Outside of academics, I have nurtured my growth and organizational skills by participating in various extra-curricular activities during undergraduate studies. Having organized and hosted several technical events like Nirvana’17, Magistech’18, etc. in the college where I managed around 200 student volunteers, I was able to develop leadership, organizing and managerial skills. I gathered vast technical knowledge by attending several technical events, fests, and conferences like Model United Nations Conferences. Apart from this, I served as Head of Literary Club, Head of Computer Society of India Students’ Chapter at MGIT, Student Convener of Qubit-2019, Student Convener of TechAstra-2018, Core Committee Member of Nirvana’19, Editor in Chief of the Musings, and Editor in Chief and Founder of CSE Hues.

Further studies were always a priority for me but I believed that before that I must gather some valuable work experience to gain a broader industry perspective. I am currently associated with my family business, Ramesh Jewellers Pvt. Ltd., a jewelry shop for 6 years where I am responsible for handling the customers, sales and billing. I also initiated the online marketing of the business. While working for the company, under the guidance of my father and grandfather, I gathered essential skills and knowledge related to management, business, and management that I find to be very useful in studying this course.

This Management Information Systems program focuses primarily on presenting current information technology and applying contemporary information management theories. It also deals with the issues related to information systems, information technology, computer science, and management. The program outfits students with general and operational management knowledge of sophisticated information systems while developing theory and practical application skills. Students will pick up the cutting-edge level of knowledge and competencies in the information systems and core skills needed to succeed as an industry pioneer in the information, communications and technology sectors. By enrolling in this course, I can tackle MIS / business-related issues; understand the role of management in enforcing IT policy and team leadership; demonstrate strong ethical principles and apply professional behavioral rules, and; demonstrate analytical skills in active decision-making and problem-solving. I expect that the program will enable me to acquire strong analytical and technical skills to evaluate, outline, execute, and administer business information systems in a quick-changing business environment, across multiple organizations. I would like to gain experience by working for six months after completing my studies, come back to India and set up my start-up and at the same time manage and develop my family business.
