Why I Deserve This Scholarship: Singapore International Graduate Awards Scheme (SINGA)

My career aspiration is to utilize both my undergraduate and postgraduate knowledge, research skills, and project and scheduling skills to promptly to become a world-renowned researcher by making a meaningful contribution in Material Science. To achieve my career aspirations, I must pursue a Ph.D., an essential qualification needed to achieve this long-term career goal in academia. A Ph.D. education will ensure the development of my analytical and research skills and enable me to contribute immensely to my chosen field of doctoral study. 'Why should you receive this scholarship?' this is the question I will answer in this essay by providing you with examples of my academic achievements and interests in future studies. 

I am sincerely hoping that by pursuing a Ph.D. in physical science and engineering with the SINGA scholarship I will pick up enhanced skills that will enable me to fulfill my career aspirations. I am naturally driven and possess a professional and independent attitude to work that will undoubtedly make me succeed in my Ph.D. program. I genuinely believe that without the knowledge, strength and motivation from within, I would not have attempted such a bold move. I take pride in knowing I am making the first step in the right direction and towards reaching new heights in my future career plan in academia.

A Ph.D. research degree will be both a challenge and an extraordinary achievement for my long-term career goal. I believe I have the ability and motivation to contribute and become a world-renowned researcher in coating and corrosion science. This is because during my final year project and MSc dissertation research, I obtained skills in using surface characterization techniques, localized corrosion scanning techniques, novel in situ characterization methods and conventional advanced electrochemical techniques to measure, characterize and assess material properties. Also, I gained communication skills, data collection skills, project, and scheduling skills, and successfully applied scientific theory to quantitative data.

The undeniable fact that I gained these academic skills during my undergraduate and postgraduate research project at Swansea University prove that I am thoroughly prepared for Ph.D. training. I'm aware that effective communication, excellent writing, data analysis skills, and active collaboration with other coworkers, including my doctoral supervisor, is vital for producing high-quality research. My research skills, knowledge, and experience will make me shine as a Ph.D. student while researching alongside world-renowned researchers at SIMTech.

A segment of my career aspiration is to expand my current research experience and skills. This may require the expansion of my data collection & analytical skills, project and scheduling skills, communication and interpersonal skills amongst others. In so doing, I can boost my chances of accomplishing my career goals. Realizing my career aspiration will take years, but I take pride in knowing I am making the first steps in the proper direction by applying for SINGA and towards reaching new height since I have just completed a bachelor's and master's level of study. Expanding my data collection & analytical skills will be achieved by working on my approved research topic, and collaboration with industrial partners at least within the 2-3 years. Communication and interpersonal skills improvement will be achieved by making presentations at conferences and seminars, reporting and documenting, making good friends, acquiring and practicing within a set timeframe, observing the cultures and tradition in Singapore, and becoming self-disciplined.

Hope that I wrote enough arguments which explain why I deserve this scholarship. To finish this essay, I eagerly looking forward to achieve my academic goals through the opportunity offered by the Singapore International Graduate Awards scheme (SINGA).
