Why I Wish to Teach - an essay about teacher and fututre career goals.  Looking back at my childhood and up until about eighth grade, I loathed school. Everything about it made me want to crawl back into bed and ignore all the responsibilities that came with it. I felt that it was wasting my time and teaching me pointless things I would never have a legitimate use for. It was not until my freshman year of high school that had altered the way I viewed school. I accredit my sudden shift in mood towards school to one teacher in specific, Mrs. Kresser. She completely changed my perspective on learning and education as a whole. She drove me to do better, to take pride in my work and to focus on my strengths to reach my full potential. Mrs. Kresser had one of the biggest impacts on my life effecting my career choice to become a teacher, so I can make this kind of difference in my future students’ lives.

I want to be a teacher because education is the most essential thing in life. To continue why I want to be a teacher essay sample, it's needed to mention that these days without an education, it is almost impossible to get a job and make a living for yourself let alone a family. It is needed for a successful future. In turn, our children are the future and they need to be properly prepared. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to educate my students. They will look up to me for ideas, guidance and wisdom. I have to ensure that my children fully understand the content before moving on or changing the subject. I give them the tools and resources to learn better. I am a child’s key to an enhanced future.

I have lots of experience with children all throughout high school and the years of my life. In the summer going into my junior year, I volunteered to work at a summer sports camp with physically disabled children. We not only taught them about games like basketball and t-ball but about the importance of sportsmanship, leadership and sharing. It was so rewarding to watch them feel accepted by their peers while learning something new. Another experience I have had with younger children was in the last two years of my high school career. There was a class offered at my school known as Leadership and Community Engagement. We had partnered with a program kind of like Big Brothers Big Sisters to mentor children. Throughout the year, we would travel to the elementary school once a week to do little activities with them, some educational and some just for fun. It was for children who had bad home lives, maybe their parents were going through a divorce or one of their parents are in jail. The teacher would recommend them to the program and we would both take personality quizzes to match us together. We were there to shine a little light on their day, however, I think sometimes we looked forward to seeing them more than they did us. It was amazing to watch them grow in academics and come out of their shell. Personally, I looked forward to being that friend they need at the moment and actually listening to what they had to say. Both the experiences with the children that I have listed and not, I genuinely cherish them and everything they have taught me while I was teaching them.

I would like to go on to study BA Education Studies at Montclair State University to study a range of disciplines including sociology, psychology, philosophy, history, policy, and politics. Studying Primary Education at postgraduate interests me as I strongly believe that education is a human right that every child should be entitled to, with it children are able to develop, and I would like to have the opportunity to inject this into children's lives. Studying PGCE Primary will grant me my qualification to teach at Primary level, thus providing me with new skills to be able to teach at a high standard.

I would be an effective teacher because of the traits I possess. I am authoritative but caring and passionate. I know when to get things done and discipline the children, at the same time I can support my children both inside and outside the classroom. My classroom will be a safe and comfortable place where my students can focus on the work and have fun. I will challenge my children and reward them for their successes.

In conclusion to why I became a teacher essay, if it weren’t for that one teacher in my life that made all the difference, I would probably still be lost and searching for my calling in life. I want to have that effect on my students. I want to be the reason they wake up, excited and prepared to come to school everyday and learn. I want to be a teacher, so I can help children reach their full potential and approach learning as something essential to their lives.
