Indian sportswomen who had little presence until a decade ago have had an astonishing rise recently, Indian sportswomen are winning their country medals in Olympics, World cups and numerous other international events.Pakistan has always been competitive when it comes to Men's sports, be it cricket, hockey, , Squash, kabaddi. But Pakistani women are rarely seen making headlines world over. Pakistani women have made some inroads in cricket recently.Bangladesh which was far behind both India and Pakistan have finally caught up, Bangladeshi women beat India twice at the Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup 2018 marking their arrival on the big stage.Let us analyze and compare the data of women athletes from these three countries, i.e Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, in major world events like Commonwealth Games, Olympics and South Asian Games. These three countries were the same entity until 1947, let us analyze how they have fared with respect to women involvement in sports.Note: India is a large country by both population & economy compared to both Pakistan & Bangladesh. It would not be fair to compare raw numbers of these countries, we will rather compare number of women in each country to the number of men from respective countries.

2018 Commonwealth GamesCWG Number of Participating Athletes- Bangladesh vs India vs Pakistan

India has the highest number of participants among both Men and Women, but it is expected of India as it is a large country. Female/ Male ratio of 0.91 is not exactly ideal but it is very good, given that there are less events for women compared to men, it is indicative of good female participation in sports. Among the medal winners 28 are women and 35 are men, while 3 were won in mixed events.Pakistan, interestingly, has higher number of men participating in comparison to the number of their female counterparts. Female/ Male ratio of 0.22 is quite low. All the 5 medals were won by men and none by women.Bangladesh has low numbers for both men and women, but they have an excellent Female/Male ratio of 1.3. Women did not win any medal while men won two.

2016 South Asian GamesNumber of Participants by country and genderEnter caption2

India had Female/Male ratio of 0.89 while the average for the tournament was 0.77Pakistan had Female/Male ratio of 0.73Bangladesh has Female/Male ratio of 0.70Number of Medal winner by country and gender2016 South Asian Games Medal winners by country

Among the medal winners, India has the Female/ Male ratio of 0.90While Pakistan had an abysmal Female/ Male ratio of 0.54Bangladesh has a Female/ Male ratio of 1.28. Bangladeshi women have outperformed their men in terms of medals, while the absence of competition from Pakistan's female athletes helped immensely.

2016 Summer Olympics- Participants by country

Both Pakistan and Bangladesh have Female/ Male ratio of 0.75 , but it must be noted that all 7 of the Pakistani athletes were given wild card entry, while 6/7 Bangladeshi athletes were given wild card entry.India has the Female/Male Ratio of 0.86.Conclusions:

India has significant Female/ Male ratio in all major events. Women have contributed equally to country's medal tally if not more.

Pakistan lacks its women participants in the sporting events, even if there is participation , there are very few among medal winners.
