Since the earliest years of my childhood, I have always had a deep passion for aviation and the amazing aircraft that seem to defy the basic principles of physics to soar high above the clouds. It has always been my dream to one day be able to commandeer an aircraft myself and understand the complex inner workings that make an aircraft take flight. Aviation is one of the main interests that continues to lead me throughout my life. I am always astounded to look up and see how small I am in comparison to some of the gargantuan aircraft that take flight in our present era.
Other interests also drive me to pursue my desire to become a pilot, such as my lifelong interest to see as much of the world as I can. Aviation allows me to do that because there is no better way to experience the world we live in than to view it from 5,000 feet in the air. Another interest that drives me to become a pilot and a caretaker of airplanes is my great interest in complex machines, understanding how they work, and the meticulous thought and planning that went into creating them. Aircraft are among the most complex machines ever invented, and they are innovated more and more with every passing year. Because of this, it is my desire to truly understand what makes an airplane function properly and how it stays aloft under almost any circumstances.
Prior to this academy, I have had previous flight training experience in the past with the help of my grandfather. He has offered many times to take me flying with him, as he is a licensed pilot and works as a flight instructor. He is currently helping me to earn my pilot’s license with the help of his instruction. In past flights, we have discussed the basic functionality of an aircraft and how to maintain basic flight, and we have also delved into more complex concepts such as takeoffs and landings, stalls, and navigation.
My greatest influence on me from a pilot is my grandfather. He has given me the chance to make my dream of becoming a pilot a reality. I have come to admire his vast experience in flying a variety of different aircraft and his deep knowledge of airplanes. He is an amazing mentor, instructor, and role model for my life. Other pilots who are deep influences and role models in my life are those who I may not have met but who have amazing stories from their many years of flying aircraft that have sparked my interest in aviation. One such pilot is Eric “Winkle” Brown. He holds the world record for flying over 400 different types of aircraft. He has flown recreational aircraft, helicopters, jet aircraft, military aircraft, and even experimental Nazi warplanes that were reclaimed after World War II. His story is very inspiring to me because it shows the many opportunities that can be made for yourself when you become a pilot, and Eric Brown made the very most of those opportunities (Brown, 1980).
After attending the EAA Air Academy, I will pursue my interest in aviation by continuing to work on my pilot’s license, looking for possible careers in the field of aviation, and by staying involved with the aviation community and the EAA. I am excited about the future possibilities and the chance to contribute to the field of aviation, bringing innovative ideas and a fresh perspective to the industry. Being part of a community that shares my passion will undoubtedly enhance my understanding and appreciation of aviation (EAA, 2023).
