Imagine that you are driving down the highway. In the car up ahead You see a man driving and he's weaving, he's swerving, his hands are moving wildly, and he's not even paying attention to the road. Drunk? I think not... he is on his cellular phone. In today's society we see people of all ages talking on cell phones because having a cell phone has become as traditional as carrying a pen. More than 50 million people in the United States have cell phones. Many of these people carry cell phones for emergencies and others carry for businesses, but what ever there reason is one thing is always the same and that is the majority of these people will sometime in there life drive and talk on there cell phones at the same time.
You may have never thought about it but every time someone talks on their cell phone while driving, he puts you are at risk of injury or death. The problem even more severe then that is many of these people who talk on cell phone and drive simultaneously tend to talk with their hands and this can cause people to swerve into other lanes and crash into other cars. speaking on Cellular phones even if they are hands free can make drivers more dangerous. In-fact drivers distracted by cellular phones are much worse at judging safe stopping distances, avoiding hazards and choosing when to turn into a line of traffic.
As a society we need to realize that this is becoming a serious problem and the only solution to this is for people to stop talking on there cell phones and driving at the same time. Every time you pick up the phone while driving you are making a decision that could end your life, not to mention all the other innocent people on the road that could have there life ended because of your decision. So if for some reason you have to use your phone while driving just keep one serious tip in mind, that is cell phones + cars = Driving hazard.
However if you must use your cell phone follow these easy steps; Familiarize yourself with the phone controls so you don't have to look for each button while dialing. Whenever possible, dial while you are not moving or have a passenger dial for you, Put any frequently used numbers in memory, If dialing while moving, dial the first 3 numbers, stop and assess the road, then finish dialing If possible, use the hands free function so your hands can stay on the wheel. While talking continue to check your mirrors every few seconds. If necessary, pull over to give the conversation your full attention also Use a message system if you need to take notes or take another number And Last never answer if you are driving in heavy traffic or hazardous road conditions
If everyone will try and follow these tips then we as a society can cut down on the accidents that are cell phone related.
In my opinion there is a big difference between carrying a cell phone for emergencies and gabbing around on the phone while driving. The difference is that those who carry a cell phone for emergencies carry one to protect themselves from dangerous situations. Those who carry cell phones to socialize while driving can put other drivers into an Dangerous situation So in conclusion, now that you are aware of what can happen from the mix of driving and talking on a cell phone I hope that you will think twice before you make a call because you may be about to make the worst decision of your life.
