On Friday night the 19th I was fortunate enough to attend a concert with multiple jazz combos made up of UO music students preformed at the Jazz Station here in Eugene. This was my first time seeing a Jazz ensemble live. The venue was extremely small with barely enough room to fit us all which in a way made the venue all that more intimate and tight. The feel and mood of the audience in comparison towards the music festivals and the assortment of other live concerts was unlike something I have seen before.
The audience was mostly made up of middle-aged men and women, and a few of us college students scattered in within the audience. The attentiveness that this audience gave these bands really inspired me to focus in on all of the different elements within each song. The feel of all of the performances collectively were very lively, and each performer looked thrilled to be on stage and performing in front of the audience. The second combo of the night was made up of a drummer, a trumped, guitar, and a bass. This ensemble was by far my favorite of the night; the songs that they chose to play were all very upbeat and lively. The drummer of this ensemble by far was the most exciting part for me, every song they played it felt like he was the one standing out especially with his ending solo for the performance.
The Culture of the pieces of music the group played were extremely jazz influenced, it sounded as if I was in the heart of New Orleans inside a jazz bar. The pulse and rhythm of each piece of music the band played was very catchy and I often found myself humming along with the piece they were playing.
Each of the four jazz groups that preformed that evening were spectacular, with that concert being my first introduction to a live jazz performance I thoroughly enjoyed it, and will definitely try to attend another jazz concert in the future.
