Relationships in a Walk to Remember and in My Life

A walk to remember is a successful novel for those who are finding the romantic taste of love in high school. The story from a fifty-seven-year-old man is telling you about their life in a high school part. It reminds me of when I was in high school, how I managed the relationship with friends and family. I will compare the protagonists with myself to show how similar and different between us.

Landon Carter is the protagonist of A Walk to Remember. In the beginning, Landon is a famous student with no plan for the future. One day, he pranks his friend and it goes wrong which leaves the boy in a hospital. This incident reminds me of when I was in high school. I am playing around the pool with my friend and then, a group of the bad seniors is charging and coming to attack us. They push me to the pool in deep water. My eyes are shutting down, and my legs, arms, and nose are slowly knacked. This occurrence makes me scared of the pool and not getting to it all the time.

After Landon pranks his friend, he has been punished by participating in various after-school activities. It makes him confront Jamie who knows each other from childhood. He says that Jamie is not his type because she is nerdy and old-fashioned. Then, he becomes close with Jamie and falls in love with her involuntarily. In high school, I am a nerdy boy which is the opposite of Landon. And I am not attending to activities that are done in the school because I think it is tame and boring. However, on the days that have an activity, one of my friends is calling and takes me to that activity. It feels uncomfortable with that, but It is not a bad idea to try something new. I always think that he is an annoying person but when I spend a lot of time with him, he is a cute guy who helps me to get out of my comfort zone.

A friendship is still growing day by day, from a stranger who had never talked together stepping up to a close friend, and finally, they were a couple. Landon and Jamie fall in love with each other. Been a while, since Jamie, she has terminal leukemia and has stopped responding to treatments. She told Landon that she has a few times left, he does everything to help her and make all of her wishes come true. For me, I got up the courage to ask him to be my boyfriend, but the answer is not the same as in a novel. He told me that both of us are men, how in the hell can we love each other. I just console myself to walk and remember that part of the time. From then on, we never saw each other again.

To summarize, for better or for worse, a relationship is not always like a novel. Maybe the beginning and the body might be the same as a novel, but lastly, we cannot imagine what would happen at the end. It could have a happy ending or not as me. Everyone knows that love comes with hurt, especially, loving someone who does not like you. Do not forget to love yourself and I hope all of you meet someone who loves you like Jamie and Landon.
