What is the Internet?

The internet is a globally connected system that entails many different independently managed networks. It is, however, a network of global exchanges, whether it is private, public, business, academic and government networks.

Internet Governance can simply be described as rules and regulations that are set in place to ensure the safety and smooth running of the internet. Internet Governance divides the responsibilities deemed necessary for a perfectly oiled system. By doing so, a community was built and assisted by stakeholders to ensure the growth and stability of the internet.

Organizations Responsible for Internet Governance

There are many technical and operational workings of the internet to be dealt with that only one company could never be enough to ensure the smooth running of the internet. The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), has been present in all functions that are set in place to discuss institutions that will be in charge of the different categories in relation to internet governance. A few of these organizations are as follows:

  2. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
  3. International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

This will ensure the future development of the internet and evolution of the internet. ISOC is the head or linked to all institutions that have roles to part take in internet governance.

ICANN is responsible for making sure that the IP addresses, country codes of the internet are all unique. The Internet would most definitely not be a global system without thetremendous coordination ICANN is able to maintain for 20 years.

A restricted internet is considered the user having complete control over what is done on the technological device they are using via Wi-fi. It cannot be accessed by hackers. Someone being able to access your personal computer is a violation of your privacy, hence, why an unrestricted internet poses as a potential disaster. Identity Theft and Trojans are examples of threats that may arise in the event of having unrestricted Internet.
