Since the start of high school, I have placed 2nd in Regionals and States in Public Speaking 1 for Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). I was even qualified to advance to FBLA Nationals last year. My advancement to Nationals last year opened up the opportunity to speak to the BCPS Board of Education at the Board of Education Meeting in May 2013. In addition, I have placed 2nd in Regionals for Business Presentation and will be advancing to States in April 2014. I have also maintained a 3.88 GPA for the past year. Furthermore, I have still remained committed to plan events and volunteer for Key Club.
This summer, I would like to get a job, get more hours on volunteer service, and possibly take a college class. My other goals in high school are to place (top 10) in Nationals for FBLA in the future. I also would like to get a 2400 or a score very close to it on the SAT I. In addition, I plan to take the Math Level 1 and Physics SAT II tests and hope to get scores close to an 800. Furthermore, I would like to get a 5 on the AP World History Exam and 4’s and 5’s on my future AP exams. As well, I would love by the time I’m a senior to bring my GPA to a 3.9. Additionally, I hope to be in National Honor Society and to get a leadership position for junior and senior year.
In order to reach these goals, I need to improve my weak areas of the SAT. I will do this by self-studying, taking a SAT Prep course over the summer, and taking a SAT Prep course for junior year. Also, in order to get into National Honor Society, I need to complete my requirements and turn in my forms on time. Also, to get 4’s and 5’s on the AP exams, I need to commit to study sessions 3-4 times a week 3 months before the exam. Additionally, I must dedicate myself to my competitive event and my clubs in order to be placed in FBLA Nationals and gain a leadership position. On top of that, I will complete my resume, fill out job applications, sign up for college classes and commit myself to volunteer service at school in order to get a job, take college classes and increase my volunteer hours. Finally, to raise my GPA in order to get a 3.9, I must continue to do my school work and try to get straight A’s for the rest of my high school career.
While in high school, I have an ideal of what my plans for the future are. My desired major for college would be Computer Science with a minor in Electrical Engineering. The location of the colleges that I’m pursuing are not in the state of Maryland, but preferably 4-6 hours away from home. As a visual aspect, I plan to be in college somewhere in the north east or southeast. The colleges that have contacted me and I will maintain contact with, Duke University, Boston University, Northwestern University, and Rochester Institute of Technology. In the summer of junior and senior year, I will contact other colleges like Yale, Virginia Tech, and Brown University to schedule college visits. This year I have been involved for community service within the school. I plan to volunteer at the Fashion Show, some Key-Club based projects, and a project that I’m currently doing for my guidance counselor. For community service outside of school, I will be volunteering for the Arts and Craft Festival at the Hampton Plaza for the fall and spring and I might volunteer over the summer at the library. I plan this summer to get a job near the Towson area, preferably at Smoothie King, Barnes & Noble, or a store at the Towson Town Mall.
For references, I chose the following teachers: Dr.Dissinger, Ms.Schweitzer, and Mrs.Tazeelar-Ngo. I would choose these teachers because they have known me since 9th grade and have seen my growth in English, IT, and Mathematics. Starting in late February, I will plan to study for the AP World History exam in order to get a 5. This summer, I will study for the SAT by investing in books and apps related to the SAT, taking a SAT Prep Course over the summer, and taking a SAT Prep Course over the school year in order to get a 2400 or a score very close to it. During junior year, I will further investigate scholarships for summer programs and college. I hope that in my junior year, I will have a leadership position in FBLA that will deal with the fundraising of the events. I plan in the summer of senior year to take classes outside of high school. I plan to apply/go to the Brown Pre-College Summer Programs, Yale at Expo, or the MIT Minority Introduction to Engineering & Science, to name a few. I also plan to further go into public speaking competitions and stay with FBLA competitions involving public speaking. Lastly, the summer of senior year, I will practice college essays in order to get an edge in the college application process.
