A Study of The Work and Job of a Police Officer

A police officer is required to put into consideration a lot of thought in handling the scenario highlighted. Handling such situation would require critical thinking especially how to approach the two men. 1970s to present day: The economy goes into recession or depression

During this time, the number of police officers dropped significantly, since the police profession was considered as not being sustainable. Motivation among the officers to work was very low there was no clear understanding on what was to be considered within the environment at the time. Criminals took a breather during this time and the rates crimes sky rocketed making it very difficult to engage police departments in developing better policies that would be integrated to provide a better, safe and secure community environment(Cave, Telep, & Grieco, 2015).

Early 1980s: Crack cocaine is invented

During this time, organized crimes were concentrated in the United States and there were no significant policies that had been put in place to deal with increasing crime levels. The invention of crack cocaine has a significant influence on the police departments since there were no strategies in place which would combat the situation(Allen & Barzel, 2011).

2001: Terrorists kill nearly 3000 Americans on 9/11

Terrorism become a major threat to the United States, every police department put in place anti-terror policies, and intelligence services which were aimed at protecting the United States citizens. Major terrorism policies in police departments have been developed after the September 11 attacks. The police surveillance was more alert after the attacks including the current policing system which has been developed to specifically and effectively engage united states citizens(Cordner, 2011).
