A Teacher's Perspective on The Purpose of Education

Education is like being able to see, without education you are blind to the world around you. It is an essential tool to living a meaningful life. It’s important for kids to get an education because they are our future. The purpose of education is to gain knowledge about the world and information will not be converted into knowledge without the education.

The teacher and the student both have roles or responsibilities when it comes to being successful within the classroom. My role as a teacher is to make sure that I find a way that is effective in the classroom and to help every child with the learning process. Teachers need to give students emotional, physical, and intellectual support. When a teacher gives a student positive feedback and support it contributes to a positive growth development. They should have some type of relationship with the parents of the students. I believe that I as a teacher should keep them informed about what I am expecting from their children, what they are expecting to gain at the end of the year, and keeping them updated with how their child is doing in the classroom whether they are concerns or accomplishments. Forming a relationship with my colleagues or other teachers is a must when becoming a teacher. Teachers that teach within the same grades should have meetings together to prepare for the future lesson plans and compare the curriculum that we are teaching to the students. Being involved in the community where you teach shows your students that you not only want involvement with their education but you care about the community that they live in. Teachers who volunteer at school dances or have fundraisers is a positive step for a teacher to take to become involved with the community.

How a teacher teaches and the outcome of what a student learns relates to one another. Learning means the knowledge the students gain from what the teacher teaches. I believe that every child is capable of learning and can be taught it just depends on how the teacher teaches the lesson. Every child doesn’t learn by hands on lessons or visual images, so as a teacher you should always do your lesson plans to relate to different ways to teach to the students. The statement that a child cannot learn or a teacher cannot teach is not a true statement because both can go hand in hand. A teacher can not teach if there is no set behavior management. Keep your students under control by having set rules and enforce them to avoid inconsistency issues.

It’s important that us as educators do everything we can to educate our students and to have positive school year. Teachers should have good classroom management, know your role as a teacher from all aspects, know what to expect from your students and to know the purpose of education and why it’s important. Education is important because it’s where everyone gets the beginning of their education needs.
