Fibroid also known as fibromas, uterine myomas or leiomyomata are firm tumors that develop in the female uterus. About 20 to 50 percent of women of reproductive age have fibroids, some women also develop fibroid during their childbearing years, and only about one-third of these fibroids are large enough to be detected by a health care provider during a physical examination.
