FYI just in case you are not aware ICAI has renamed the entrance test CA CPT to CA Foundation course and has declared new CA syllabus from 2018. So in this post you will become more familiar about CA Foundation course. The new CA Foundation Course will commence from 1st July 2017. Students who registered on or after 1st July 2017, are allowed to go for this new changed CA Course.

ICAI CA Foundation exam will be held twice every year in the long stretches of May and November. There are 4 papers in CA Foundation course from May 2018. And, ICAI has introduced general English and Business and Commercial Knowledge subjects in CPT new syllabus. New syllabus will be relevant from May 2018. However, ICAI will give some fixed number of trials to finish CA CPT in old syllabus for old registered students.

• Syllabus of CA Foundation Course 2018

The name for CA CPT has been replaced with CA Foundation as per the new syllabus. There are 4 papers in CA Foundation course.

• Registration Process of CA Foundation

CA Foundation Exam is held twice a year in the month of May and November. Examination Department issues notifications/announcements regarding conduct of Foundation Examination on Institute’s website www.icai.org/Newspapers. The issued notification contains the proposed Examination Centres, in India and abroad. After registration the students are also required to fill in separate application form for appearing in Foundation Exam. Foundation Course registration is valid for 3 years and can be revalidated any number of times for further 3 years period by paying revalidation fee of Rs. 300/- or as decided by the Council from time to time.

• Last Date for CA Foundation Registration for May 2018 attempt: 31st December 2017
• Last Date for CA Foundation Registration for November 2018 attempt: 30th June 2018
• Eligibility Criteria for CA Foundation

Any student who has taken Class 12th exam conducted by an inspecting body constituted by law in India (or an examination perceived by the Central Government as identical thereto) may enrol for Foundation Course. An enrolled student may attempt Foundation Examination after he/she has qualified the Senior Secondary Examination* (10+2 examination) conducted by an inspecting body constituted by law in India (or an examination perceived by the Central Government as equivalent) and has conformed to such prerequisites as might be determined by the Council now and again.

Any student who has got himself/herself enrolled for Foundation Course and has studied at least four months is qualified to take up the Foundation Examination, i.e., student registered at the very latest 30th June/31 st December will be qualified to show up in November/May examination separately. Foundation Examinations are held in May and November consistently. Students who are Graduates/Post Graduates with minimum predefined percentage marks or its equivalent grade in the examination conducted by any recognized University (including Open University) or Intermediate level examination passed students of The Institute of Cost Accountants of India or The Institute of Company Secretaries of India are exempted from passing Foundation Course. Such students on satisfying the necessities can enrol specifically to Intermediate Course.

Foundation Course includes four papers, out of which two are subjective and two are objective. Negative marking for incorrect choice is there in objective papers.
