Allen Lau – an Entrepreneur I Admire

Consequently, a successful entrepreneur that I admire the most is Allen Lau. Allen Lau is the co-founder and CEO of Wattpad. He founded it together with Ivan Yuen in 2006. Allen was born in Hong Kong. At age nineteen, he moved to Canada in order to pursue his studies in electrical engineering at the University of Toronto. However, Wattpad was actually an idea he wrote on a napkin in the Vancouver airport. Before co-founding Wattpad, he was a CEO and co-founder of FeedM8, a mobile advertising company. Like most people, Allen loves to read thus creating Wattpad, a global phenomenon reaching every country in the world.

Allen Lau is an entrepreneur with many admirable characteristics. What makes him very successful today are his excellent attributes that makes him an inspiring entrepreneur. He is a visionary and a team player. He decided to wait and launch Wattpad at the right time which what makes the app so successful. He also never fails to mention that the success of Wattpad as seen today is due to the team he works with thus making teamwork a paramount to success. Allen also believes in diversity and is a humble person. His office is an open plan office together with all his staffs from diverse backgrounds and he created the app to cater the diverse users of Wattpad. For him, creativity and innovation are vital keys to his success. He provided a fun working space for his staff to generate their creativity. In addition, he works in an industry where innovation plays a potent role. For instance, he was able to create a mobile app that had a lot of function and purpose in this era. Moreover, he believes that one must have trust in oneself and that what they are doing is important.

Finally, not to forget his entrepreneurial spirit and his patience. For instance, he worked side jobs in order to fund Wattpad and he is motivated by the fact that he adds value to people’s live when hearing about their feedback on how Wattpad has positively affected their lives. As a leader, he feels that patience is a key because sometimes, we have some brilliant ideas but it is not the right moment to execute it. In conclusion, Allen urges all young innovators and entrepreneurs to keep in mind that in order for a brand to succeed, it must have a purpose.
