More guns have been drawn on school campuses in recent years than doodles in student’s textbooks. While this statement is attention-grabbing, it is not supported by any evidence or statistics. The author could revise this sentence to something like, "The number of guns brought onto school campuses has increased in recent years, creating a concern about the safety of students and staff."
Devin Hughes and Mark Bryant write, “The shooter at Stoneman Douglas High had a long history of red flags that didn't show up in the national database but were well-known to local police. A law that would have required a gun buyer to apply for and get a permit at the discretion of law enforcement could have empowered authorities to deny the shooter access to an AR-15. ” (Hughes, Bryant) No more should have to be said, with mandatory background checks and waiting periods mass shooting rates would significantly decrease. The author does not provide any evidence to support this claim. The author could revise this sentence to something like, "Research has shown that mandatory background checks and waiting periods can help reduce the incidence of mass shootings, making them a necessary component of any comprehensive gun control policy."
Americans could take a lesson from Japan's styles. Despite many peoples beliefs, having a gun in a fight does not automatically stop any potential violence, in fact it could encourage it. In short, other countries have implemented stronger gun regulations and have had strong, life saving results because of it. America as a whole has seemed to shrug aside the seriousness of gun regulations. By implementing stricter gun control laws the United States would be stepping forward in trying to reduce mass shootings. In 2017, there are records of at least 345 mass shootings in America alone. It seems as though, those people running around, guns slung of their back, shouting, “It is our Second Amendment right” choose to not notice that those same guns they are fighting for for “protection” are taking away thousands of lives each year. This Second Amendment they all praise so highly was written in a time where the guns the amendment addresses, were nothing more than a long tube that shot out a pound of burning lead. While it is true that the Second Amendment was written in a different time period, the author needs to provide evidence to support the claim that automatic weapons capable of shooting off 200 bullets a minute were not within the purview of the authors of the Second Amendment. Without such evidence, this claim lacks credibility. The author could revise this sentence to something like, "While the Second Amendment was written in a different time period, it is important to consider the types of weapons available today and whether they should be subject to different regulations than the weapons of the past."
Peoples excuse for condoning these mass murders are getting old.The author could revise this sentence to something like, "The excuses people use to justify these mass murders are becoming tired and ineffective."
