Americans are not easily defined. All Americans come from different backgrounds and cultures. No two citizens are exactly the same. Each one comes from a different walk of life. This mixture of cultures brings about a mixture of ideas and beliefs. America promises to all citizens the rights to protect and embrace their differences, whether they be ideological or physical differences. This is one reason why I am proud to be an American. I am proud to be an American because of all the promises this great country has to offer to each of its citizens.

America has always valued the idea of individualism and the importance of its citizens personal beliefs. America has continuously provided and protected the individual rights of its citizens. Individual rights include, however not limited to, the freedoms granted to citizens in the Bill of Rights, ratified in 1791. America promised its citizens freedoms such as freedom of speech, religion, assembly, and petition. These, along with other rights, were fundamental freedoms that America believed each citizen ought to be promised. Throughout America’s history, including present day, people around the world have sought to deprive Americans from these freedoms. Terrorists groups from around the globe have brutally killed countless Americans for disagreeing with them. America has and always will fight to protect citizens’ and future citizens’ rights from the corrupt evils of the world. I am proud to be an American because America will not stand for any actions like those of terrorists to deprive Americans of our rights.

I have always admired America’s will to help those in need. Not only by the actions of democracy or diplomacy, but also by the actions of American citizens for one another. Recently, in late August of 2017, Hurricane Harvey devastated parts of the southern United States. After the storm, Americans went right to work to help those affected by the storm. Neighbors comforted neighbors after losing so much from their lives. Many charitable organizations contributed to take care of their fellow Americans. Even professional athletes contributed to relief efforts. J.J. Watt, a defensive lineman for the Houston Texans helped raised over $37 million to donate to a cause that helped countless Americans. What I admire about the response to this disaster was the fact that not a single person was forced to help. Americans reached out to take care of their own when times got tough. I am proud to be an American knowing that others would help me just as I would help them in a time of need.

Americans pride themselves for their differences, for their individual beliefs, and their individual morals. I am proud to say that I am an American for these same reasons. I am proud of our nation’s accomplishments and I am proud to say that I am going to be a part of this amazing country’s bright future in the time to come.

Expert Review
The essay "American Pride: The Reasons Why I Am Proud to Be an American" presents a heartfelt reflection on the values and freedoms that define the United States. The author effectively emphasizes the diversity of American society and highlights individualism as a core principle protected by foundational documents like the Bill of Rights. The inclusion of contemporary examples, such as the response to Hurricane Harvey, adds relevance and demonstrates community spirit. However, while the narrative is passionate, it occasionally lacks depth in exploring opposing viewpoints or acknowledging historical complexities related to these freedoms. Additionally, while several credible sources are cited, their integration into the argument could be more seamless to enhance credibility. Overall, the essay offers a strong personal perspective but would benefit from a more critical examination of America's challenges alongside its achievements for a balanced discussion. This results in a rating of 3.9 out of 5.

What can be improved
The essay "American Pride: The Reasons Why I Am Proud to Be an American" offers a compelling personal perspective on the values of diversity and individualism in the United States. However, several areas could be improved to enhance its overall impact. Firstly, while the author highlights individual rights and freedoms, a more nuanced discussion of opposing viewpoints would strengthen the argument. For instance, acknowledging historical injustices or current debates surrounding civil liberties could provide a more balanced perspective on American freedoms. Additionally, the integration of cited sources needs to be more cohesive. Rather than merely listing them at the end, referencing these works throughout the essay would lend greater authority to the claims made and demonstrate how they support the author’s points. Moreover, incorporating a broader range of contemporary examples beyond Hurricane Harvey could illustrate community resilience in various contexts, enriching the narrative. Lastly, enhancing the conclusion with reflections on future challenges facing American values would create a thought-provoking closing that encourages readers to consider both pride and responsibility as citizens. Overall, these adjustments would lead to a deeper exploration of what it truly means to be proud of one's country.
