There was a conflict between England and the colonies. It developed after a series of laws that were passed which it stated that the colonies had to pay taxes to the British. One major catalyst to war with England is one of the dumping of tea in the Boston Harbor and the Stamp Act. Great Britain had won the French and Indian War, but the Parliament still had to pay for it. The British continued to keep a standing army in North America to protect the colonists against Indian attacks.
The American Revolution was precipitated by a series of laws passed between 1763 and 1775 that regulating trade and taxes. The war ended with Britain triumphant but heavily in debt that they had to start taxing the colonists. Since the war benefited the many American colonists from England, the British government reasoned colonists should help pay for it. The Parliament refused to respond to the colonial concerns.
The Laws passed between 1763 and 1775 stayed the same trade in the colonies and imposed new taxes to refill British coffers. The colonists reacted to the Stamp Act.
The Stamp Act of 1765 was an act of the Parliament of Great Britain that imposed a direct tax on the colonies of British America. The Colonists reacted to the Stamp Act of 1765 by vocalizing their dissent in assemblies, newspapers and the Stamp Act Congress, which drafted a document called the Stamp Act Resolves. But there were some violent protesters who threatened stamp distributors which they forced them to resign their commissions. There were some mobs that prevented stamp papers from entering the country.
The First Continental congress was a meeting of delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies that met on September 5 to October 26, 1774 at Carpenters’ Hill in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, early in the American Revolution. A series of measures were imposed by the British government on the colonies in response to their resistance to new taxes.
The Second Continental congress was on May 12, 1775 delegates from colonies met again. They compromise again, but displayed their growing dissatisfaction. They asked colonies to draft new state constitutions and to name Massachusetts militia the new Continental Army. Also, they want to name George Washington the commander of army. They also, sent Olive branch petition to George the third. The Declaration of independence was a Formal document written to explain to the world why the colonies felt the need for the rebellion and to try to convince all colonists and other nations to support the colonial revolution against Britain.
On June 1776 congress forms a committee to write the Declaration of independence, the document restating political ideas justifying the separation from Britain. Thomas Jefferson and his committee had the duty of drafting for the Continental Congress. The final product lacked provisions condemning the British slave trade and a denunciation of the British people that earlier drafts had contained.
