The Ten Commandments is an American Biblical Epic Film that is directed by Cecil B DeMille. It dramatizes the biblical story of the life of Moses. Pharaoh Rameses I of Egypt orders to kill all new first born male baby of his time but, Yoshebel saves her infant son by setting him adrift in the basket on the Nile River. The Pharaoh’s daughter finds the basket and decides to adopt the baby boy even though her servant Memnet, recognized the baby as Hebrew, Bithia named it Moses. Prince Moses grows up to becomes a successful general.
Moses and Nefretiri fall in love with each other, but, she must marry the next Pharaoh. Moses changed the process of treating the slaves which caused to Prince Rameses II to charge him of planning an insurrection. Moses said that he is helping or rather encouraging the workers to become productive. Since then, Rameses II wonders if he is the so called “deliverer” of the Hebrews. Nefretiri knew that Moses is a son of Hebrew through Memnet whom she killed afterwards.
Moses learns more about the workers by working with them. Nefretiri urges him to return to his home to help his people as Pharaoh. To which he agrees and completed his final task. Moses saved Joshua and confesses that he is a Hebrew too. But, unfortunately the confession was heared by Dathan and tells Rameses II, who then arrests Moses. He explained that he is not the Deliverer, but would free slaves if he could. Rameses II was declared as the next Pharaoh and banishes Moses to the dessert. To his way to the dessert in Midian, he was able to defend the seven sisters from Amalekites, Moses house are surrounded with Girls but, Moses marries Jethro’s eldes,t daughter Sephora. After that, he saw again Joshua, he saw the burning bush at the Mount Sinai and was able to hear the voice of God.
Moses return to Egypt to free his people the Hebrews. Moses and Rameses with his people faught to free the Hebrews. Turning their staff into cobra, although Moses staff was superior. Nefretiri rescued Moses from being stoned to death by telling he is married to her. Moses uses God's help to stop the Egyptians with a pillar of fire. Moses parts the Red Sea and the Hebrews struggle toward the other side. Then, Moses releases the walls of water, drowning the Egyptian army. Rameses returns empty-handed to Nefretiri, telling her, "His god is God". Moses again, ascends the mountain with Joshua. Impatiently, Dathan urges the Hebrews to construct a golden calf idol as a gift for Rameses. A wild and decadent orgy is held by most of the Hebrews. Moses saw the Ten Commandments created by God in two stone tablets. He throws the tablets at the golden calf, which explodes, killing the wicked revelers. Forty years later, an elderly Moses leads the Hebrews to Canaan. He was named Joshua who leads the Israel.
There’s a lot of conflict in the story, one is when Rameses I order to kill all new born male babies to avoid the so called “deliverer” of the Hebrews. Also, when Rameses daughter Bithia was the one who finds the baby Moses. But for me, the main conflict is when Rameses II knew that Moses is the deliverer of the Hebrew and decided to have fight with him and when Neretiri and Moses wasn’t able to be together. This story reflects how will of God surpassed everything. This film is a great mirror of will and obedience. Wherein, Moses could disapprove or dislike the taught of being a deliverer and live a normal life but he didn’t. As a student and as a son, I learned to follow what is the will of God and my parents. So as to the ten commandments, which is the spiritual mirror of how to be good disciple of God, wherein obedience and acceptance is the key that empowers faithfulness and willingness to what is fate and destined for us.
