An Analysis of The Argument on The Benefits of Legalizing Drugs

It is well known that drugs as cocaine, marihuana, heroin or any other drug have destructive consequences on addicts. It is often said by the opponents of legalizing drugs that it can lead to health problems since it is dangerous to the body especially the brain, and many cases of young people have died because of the overdose. Also, they claim that legalization would decrease price and increase availability. On the flip side, if the government legalizes drugs that will solve many essence problems as reducing drug related crime, and making the addicts safer.

The current argument about legalizing drugs identifies an interesting viewpoint on reducing drug related crimes. Addiction spills over into the criminal realm; people resort to criminal behavior as stealing or killing innocent people to gain money for drugs. To strengthen such approach, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, classified that almost a quarter of prisoners incarcerated on drugs crimes to obtain money for drugs. Instead if it is legalized addicts will stop committing crimes to support their habit. Another line of thought on reducing crimes, that is, drug war.
