An Analysis of The Immigration Ban of Donald Trump

Introduction

As we all know, Donald Trump won the presidency against Hillary Clinton in the past election. Trump took office in mid-January and has already implemented some radical changes throughout the country. Among these changes, the most infamous is certainly his immigration ban. This policy prohibited persons from several Middle Eastern and African countries from entering the United States. Among these countries were Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Yemen, Syria, Sudan, and Libya. Many people were shocked by how suddenly and swiftly this all happened. There were certainly mixed feelings among the people regarding this ban. Trump was vocal during his campaign about enacting changes such as this. I feel many people were surprised by this because, often, presidents do not follow through on all their campaign promises (Lowery, 2017).

Analysis of The Immigration Ban of Donald Trump

Many people were supportive of this decision, while many others knew it was not justifiable. I understand that presidents are granted the power to make such decisions, but this technique is contradictory, unethical, and downright foolish. I’m not one to really indulge in political debates, especially those that pertain to my own country; however, I feel there are a lot of negative points to this that need further discussion. The reason being, these so-called bans affect people both inside and outside of the United States. One reason I feel that this is not specifically an attack on religion is that several events led to these decisions. Some of which include the 9/11 attacks and ISIS-related incidents. The United States is implementing these bans to help protect their country. Islam is not 100% feared because of their religion; rather, it is the extremists and radicals that place a negative perception of the religion. It is important to note that not everyone in these regions is simply Muslim; other religions, such as Christianity and Judaism, also reside in such lands (Smith, 2018).

Religious Implications

However, on the other hand, these bans could also have the possibility of being religiously fueled. Although not all individuals are Muslim, the majority is. This means there is reason to believe that Trump may harbor unfavorable views towards Islam. Since I am from the Middle East, I have much familiarity with such instances. Many Americans are unaware of how the governments of countries in the Middle East work. One of the most common themes is the lack of separation between church and state. Islam is governed entirely by the words of the Quran. Therefore, even if Trump simply does not care for the way it is governed, it also has ideologies of religion interwoven into its governance. These ideas are overall more complex than one may ever know. However, I have indicated that such bans may or may not be religiously induced (Johnson, 2017).

Conclusion

In conclusion, Trump's immigration ban has sparked significant controversy and debate, with opinions divided on its justifiability and implications. While some view it as a necessary measure for national security, others see it as a discriminatory act against specific religious and ethnic groups. The complex interplay of politics, religion, and security concerns makes this issue a multifaceted one that requires deeper understanding and discussion. As we continue to analyze the impacts of this policy, it is crucial to consider the broader implications on international relations and human rights (Doe, 2019).
