Should college athletes get paid?

Walmmer together with Roy have something in common. They have suffered serious disputes in time of their contracts. The disputes they suffer regards to salary and how they do perform, at some point, they are forced to fight their stand to prove themselves. NCAA face a similar encounter since they are solely controlled by Universities. It has no full control over its operation as all the activities it involves itself in must be first approved and accepted by the university. The body is forced to rely to funds given out by the university. It is not in a position to have an outside source hence when the university is unable to raise enough money, then it is not able to work out its operations well. This acts as a big blow (Hawes, 1999).

Thesis: Student athletes in universities should be paid. This should be the case if the university is making gains from athlete’s activities in which the student has participated. Activities that the athletes take part in can comprise of the ability of the athlete to get that extra gain not only in University activities but also in activities that are outside the university. The activities that the student should be involved in must be legally accepted otherwise it should not be advocated.

Having a voluminous audience on every weekend spending time while watching football is a clear indication that students in universities invest a lot in football, be it in terms of money or time. When the charges to getting access to these sites of watching football (halls and clubs) are hiked, they still get filled up after all. A sign that there are lots of fans. Hiking can be done in order to have convenience and control (Brown, 1999).

Centers of education are legalized in US hence their main goal is to make maximum profits. These centers normally use sports to raise large amounts of revenues. It is unfortunate that after making those revenues they fail to locate some to athletes who work tirelessly in order to have improved sporting IQ. The students usually invest so much time in sports hence leaving few hours for scholar activities and afterwards their efforts fail to be recognized. Many of them have even given up in sporting activities as a result.

Students must enter into a contract before they join NCAA. The contract normally protect their working rights. There are also rules governing the parties involved such that the contract cannot be terminated without the consent of the athlete. This has reduced the cases of mishandling.
