The Greatest Showman teaches us valuable lessons about the importance of embracing and celebrating our true identity. During the film Michael Gracey the director uses the main character PT Barnum (Phineas Taylor Barnum) on what he most values which is money and fame shapes and shows who we really are and what our identity is. Michael Gracey also uses the performers of PT Barnum’s show to remind us of accepting our values on by what we look like and by the names or labels others give us. Also, through the songs it shows the challenges of finding our own place in our world and celebrate the fact that we are all unique and created in our gods image, everyone is different, and nobody is perfect. Also, Michael Gracey the director shows how distracted we can get by other less important things like money and fame and start forgetting about the less important things like family and happiness.
PT Barnum started off as a tailors son, he worked with his dad travelling around for business, the first scene we see is him looking into a window looking at a expensive suit, he has a vision of his future performing in front of a massive crowd all singing and dancing along with the music, then he looks at himself and realises that could never happen, he is covered in dirt and has holes in his shoes and suit, he knows he is poor and struggling for money to pay for food and shelter. The next scene we see he is a at a rich house and his dad is getting sizes for charity’s dad. Gracey Uses the performers to show identity through the fact that they are different, he is underlying the fact that everyone should be equal, no matter what they look like. Barnum also shows identity through the performers by pulling them out of the shadows and making them known to the world, he brings them to the circus and tells the they are unique and special and give them a home that they can belong to. Slowly they all grow in confidence and unite together as a family. They all individually understand that they have their own identity and uniqueness and the circus brings that out in each one of them. Being different isn’t a disease, let’s just embrace it.
Family is such a fundamental foundation to build persistence, confidence, compassionate and trust to each member of the house. This is something we need to apply inside the circle of our family. Don’t ignore the power of family since you’re not going to find another home that can substitute the natural vibe inside the family. Barnum puts money and success before his family this shows that he wants more, P. T. Barnum emerges as a strong, but fallible lead character, human in his longing to please those who disliked his way of entertainment. This movie encourages young people by giving a message to never give up and work hard. Barnum builds up his amazing circus from a boring museum. He invites unique people to come the circus and perform, and together, they make a famous circus. The message at the end of the movie is Family is infinity fame and money are temporary.
