‘Everything Irie Bredrin’ is a phrase you will hear after someone listened to the king of reggae music; Bob Marley. When most people think or hear about Bob Marley, they immediately think about weed. But Bob Marley was just more than weed, he was the King of reggae music. With his love for singing, he opened doors for Jamaican culture. He not only was fighting for world peace but was giving everyone who didn’t have a say; a voice. When listening to his music one can’t help but dance or feel the excitement. In April 2012 DJ iLL released an amazing album featuring Bob Marley. The album was called Bob Marley Greatest Hits. There are five tracks from his album I will forever love. The songs I will review are Three Little Birds, One Love, Is It Love, Could You Be Loved, and Redemption Song.

To start, the first track on the album is one of the most beautiful songs Bob Marley wrote and sang; Three Little Birds. Musically this song’s Caribbean beat and lyrics go melodiously together. The sound of the song provides a high clam, uplifting, and mellow tone to listen to. When Bob Marley sang this piece from the song ‘This is my message for you-uuu-uuu-u don’t worry about a thing, cause every little thing gonna be all right’. The message he was implying was to makes people realize that the little things in life aren’t always worth worrying about. Just live your life and stop stressing about everything around you. This song can change someone’s perspective on life and make them a happier person. When I listen to this masterpiece, I always imagine my family and I at a beach on a sunny day just relaxing and jamming out to this song from the album. It makes me stop stressing about life and just enjoy what’s right in front of me, which is family!

Next, the song I’ll review is track five on the album is One Love. In Jamaica 1976, the country was divided into two political parties, which cause a lot of violence to arise. So, Bob Marley being peaceful and caring as he was, he wanted to unite everyone again how it was before the fighting started. He wrote and sung the One Love in hoping to end the fighting. When listening to this song it starts off with a very chilling and peaceful piano instrumental beat accent followed by Bob Marley’s soft pleasing lyrics. One can’t help but feel delightful and soothing from the good vibe tempo this song gives off. The key lyric of this song ‘One love, one heart, let’s get together and feel all right.’ is the main message. It is telling the listeners to stop the fighting and just love each other. Also, we all need to unite together instead of being divided. Anytime I listen to this song I tend to be a better person honestly. It makes me want to help someone in need and to spread love, and peace to someone’s day. It is one of Bob Marley’s legendary songs that everyone knows and loves it help saved Jamaica from a horrible fate.

Furthermore, on track nine of Bob Marley Greatest Hits album is; Is This Love. When it comes to love songs, everyone wants something they can relate to and this song is just that. It is simple, straight to the point, and sweet love song. The lyrics are about love, which also has a touch of poverty in it, which gives the song a hopeful and yearning quality. The beat of the song is very downbeat and smooth that gives it a real reggae feeling. Bob Marley sings his message clearly ‘I want to love you, and treat you right, I want to love you, every day and every night.’

This piece of the song is the main message, it is saying that the person just wants to love you no matter what and where they are. And like I said before it has a touch of poverty. ‘We’ll be together, with a roof right over our heads. We’ll share the shelter, of my single bed.’ Even though you don’t have a fancy house to live, that shouldn’t matter. Your love for that person is all you need in life. I was touched by this song when I was in a relationship about five years ago. It helped me not to give up on love and to fight for the women I was with no matter what.

On the other hand, one of the tracks on the album track ten to specific is more uprising. The song I’m talking about is Could You Be Loved. In the 80s it was the movie theme songs for tons of movies. The song itself is upbeat. It starts with an outstanding guitar riff that plays under the bold beat. The female chorus vocalists are great with the background beats in this song as well. ‘Could you be loved and be loved?’. Bob Marley was trying to get this line from his song across listener’s heads because it had a strong meaning behind it. There are two messages that I believe he was trying to tell. One, he was trying to tell us was that God will judge you based on how you treat others and is telling you to change your ways. Second, people are afraid to express their love for others because they’re scared of their reaction. Overall the song is sensationally cool reggae groove and pop-disco to it. It is very impossible to feel anything but relaxed euphoria when listening to this song.

Lastly, the final track I’m going to review is track sixteen; ‘Redemption Song’. Bob Marley accompanied his own acoustic guitar solo on this track. It doesn’t have a beat only this sweet melody of a guitar, that will give you chills. This lyric is the impact of the song, ‘Won’t you help to sing, these songs of freedom, cause all I ever have, Redemption songs.’. This song’s message is about redemption, freedom, and emancipation. A deep insight if it is, we all have the power to free our minds from being mentally enslaved by society. This song was the last song he produced before dying. The lyrics in the song really captures Bob Marley true singing soul. To me when I listen to this song, I’m either in a difficult situation or just stressing. But this song has the power to inspire and liberate anyone. This song is inspiring to many artists like Rihanna, Alicia Keys and more.

To conclude, In April 2012 DJ iLL released the album Bob Marley Hits. Within this album, I picked my top five favorite and reviewed them. Three Little Birds, One Love, Is It Love, Could You Be Loved, and Redemption Song. When someone listens to Bob Marley, they will only feel joy and happiness. Only good vibes come out of his songs. Not only did he just write songs, but he put all his feelings and soul into every lyric. And if you ask me that is what makes him the king of reggae music. Without Bob Marley’s songs, most people wouldn’t be where they are today. Because his songs also inspired tons of people to never give up and to just love each other. No matter where you go you will hear his music playing, cause his legacy lives on through his music and within all of us. To me, no other artist could write about the troubles in life and make it sound so pleasing to the ears.
