The story was great as it shows cultural values, moral issues and conveys message to people of what’s really happening around our society from then unto this day. However I felt a little religious bias for it shows only one religion habituary issues among many movies which I think didn’t help our society to become what we are nor they are. Obcourse what we believe and our surrounding is what really affects us, moulds and shape us for what we are now, but I think it is up to people and oneself how they behave or if they’ll believe, and follows others. We are created individual with our mind and body thus discipline comes after ourselves.
Discipline is something that is embodied and cannot be taught by any religion or people, if one is not willing to do so then he will not have it at all. The story is good but comes blurry at first to me, maybe because of the plot arrangement and too many twists and twirls however later conveys a message towards our society as its evidently seen unto this days. When it comes to cinematography, I was so amazed considering that it made many years before me. I was only bothered by entire music that is used in the movie.
Music’s and sounds is another factor, for me when watching movies music helps convey the emotion upon the situation. It gives different moods and emotions such surprise, scares and excite people about the scenes.
When it comes to the actors, I find them really great doing their roles. In this movie Christopher de Leon talent in acting was really exceptional after knowing that it was his debut movie, he is really a great actor, and it’s no surprise why up to now his active in Philippine Television and Cinema. He is one amongst the artist and actors that his eyes speak much more than his mouth could do. His acting is like a pro knowing that it is his first movie, so two thumbs up for him specially the scene where he had a cat fight with his friend talking about their life as husband and wife. Christopher de Leon way and timing of throwing lines was precise, exact and convincing that made me feel like he really do feels the way he should be feeling during the shoot. What a great actor!
For Eddie Garcia, I had watched a lot of his filmed and most of his role is a womanizer man so I think it was just ordinary for him. But his talent is great as well. I find Evangeline irritating, Junior’s girlfriend who portrait a “good girls are the bad girls who haven’t been caught”; for she feels and embodied so much the notion that she’s the most beautiful girl in town so that’s give her justification to flirt for whoever shows affection towards her. But the fact that she draws irritation on me, it shows that she’s a good actor as well.
Lolita Rodriguez, on the other hand is very good. Playing the role of insane women was not that easy, and being the main actor at the same time, her acting skills do justice for this movie. However I notice on thing on Lolita Rodriguez acting in the way she walked was not that convincing at all, because seeing some insane across the streets she could have done it more exaggerating or at least talking or crying while walking not just playing with some folks around the village. Friends of Junior are also great for they add spice on the movie they also did much favour for this movie, specially the “kiss and Tell guy” whom ended up Evangeline husband. They’re very convincing as they’re playing a bad influence friend. However Milagros another friend of Junior whom also sister of his friend whose end up marrying Evangeline made me wonder where she is in the movie scene after she seduce Junior. Her story gives an interesting and exciting as well feeling to me, for her character is so strong her must have been completed for she plays a very mysterious type silent intelligent manila girl. Her story must have justice in this movie like if she became successful in her field?
Another character is Berto played by Mario O’hara is as effective as I pity his situation; the line he throws comes very natural thus became convincing. I hate people the way they’re been treated. How people opposed for his love for Kuala. It made me question myself that “How can you tell the love is wrong?”As I watched the film, it made me realized more how hypocrite our society is. Actually this movie is different from the movies genre I mostly like to watch. I have no interest in story like insane people but watching this movie made me realized how hard their situation was and the people around them made it harder for them to live in this full of standards and notion society. Like if you we’re different they will be unkind, inhuman and you will be mistreated. It also shows the hierarchy of the society that there are people who are alienated in a certain environment and there are oppressors, there are people who are outcast and there are people enjoys being superior.
All in the entire story draws the true hypocrisy and also made question myself what’s my stand if I were in the movie. In the story the boy bears witness and participates in the various emotions that throb under the seemingly quite village life – prejudice, cruelty, forgiveness and even love. In tinimbang, Brocka clearly shows a man’s limitations as a mortal being, but it sends a message of hope for the movie, and in the end, speaks ultimately of rebirth and maturity. Lino Brocka didn’t failed to shed a light on our country’s social ills in this film.
