Introduction

Before arguing on whether governments should invest in the development of renewable energies, it’s important to establish on what renewable energy is and to consequently determine its significant role over other sources of power. Renewable energy commonly referred to as the green energy is the energy produced using the natural environmental resources that can be continuously replaced and never run out (Boyle, 2012).

The reliability of renewable energy is as a result of the availability of numerous natural sources of power, thus making it easier for its production (Craddock, 2008). Therefore, the primary sources of green energy are the solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal heat and biomass. These renewable source of power, and hence their usability can continuously be replaced and can never run out. They are replenished naturally (Tiwari, 2012).

After establishing on what renewable energy is, it's imperative to stretch further to determine why governments should invest in developing this type of power. The use of renewable energy is significant in the sense that, it leads to the development of infrastructural facilities and the creation of job opportunities, consequently boosting the economy of a country (Sørensen, 2011). Most of the investments with regards to the renewable energies are spent on materials and artistry to help build and maintain the green energy infrastructural facilities.

For instance, the investments in the renewable energy within the United States is used within the same states and cities. This implies that the amount of money spent on energy stays at home to help in creating jobs and thus boosting local economies rather than going out of the country (Boyle, 2012). Additionally, technologies developed on the renewable energy can be sold to other nations generating government revenue and consequently boost the economy of the country’s trade deficit (Tiwari, 2012).

Unlike the non-renewable source of energy, the use of renewable source of power such as use of the solar panels and wind power is relatively cheaper for the country (Tiwari & Ghosal, 2007). If a nation can adopt renewable source of energy with regards to the right conditions for the investment, Solar and wind power can be able to make a lot of economic sense. The effectiveness and reliability of the solar energy will encourage more people to start buying the solar panels for both domestic and commercial use. With limited or no subsidies this can be able to make financial sense (Tiwari & Ghosal, 2007).

The cost of solar panels is relatively affordable to a more significant number of people, and they are not restricted to rooftops. The affordability of the renewable source of energy has led to a constant growth of solar and wind plants in India and Chile (Sørensen, 2011). Most manufacturing plants prefer the use of solar and wind energy as a result of its reliability and cheap source of energy. The increase in the development of local factory is as a result of the competitive source of power and hence leading to a sequential growth of the country's economy (Boyle, 2012).

Growth in solar and wind manufacturing plants will ultimately lead to the creation of more job opportunity and increased revenue for the country (Sørensen, 2011). For instance, Bloomberg projects that the world will have 600 Gigawatts and 1900 Gigawatts of photovoltaic solar worldwide by 2020 and 20130 respectively. This will be an increase of 5-7% of the global electricity mix. These projections are based on the growth of green energy due to the affordability of the renewable energy’s structural systems (Green, 2006).

Renewable source of power ensures improved public health and clean environment and ultimately a healthy country (Diesendorf, 2014). Generating electricity from the natural sources is significant and poses less healthy and environmental issues as compared to fossil fuels. Unlike renewable energy, the use Non-renewable source of power possesses a substantial danger to the environment and its inhabitants. This is as a result of the polluted air and water emitted to the atmosphere by the coal and the natural gas manufacturing plants. Contrary to the green energy, the effluent from the non-renewable energy manufacturing plants contributes to the respiratory and neurological complications to the people neighboring the plant (Sørensen, 2011).

Replacement of fossil fuels with the green energy will help in the reduction of the country’s premature mortality and lost workdays (Boyle, 2012). This is because it helps in the decrease in the overall healthcare expenses and thus ensuring the safety of the citizen's health and consequently a healthy nation. A healthy nation facilitates the growth of the economy of the country; this is because the overall economic impact of a country is attributed to the health impacts as a result of the use of fossil fuel (Ghosh & Prelas, 2011).

Fossil fuel health impact is between 2.5% to 6% of the gross domestic product. Therefore, it's essential for a country to adopt an alternative and efficient source of power, and the renewable energy is possibly the better source of power for the country that is determined to build its economy (Boyle, 2012).

Renewable energy provides a more reliable and resilient source of power to the country (Tiwari, 2012). Wind and solar power are less prone to probable massive scale failures. This is because of the distribution of the wind and solar power structural systems. Its distribution system ensures that they are spread out over a larger geographical area, and thus minimizing the possibility of a power cut off to the entire region. As a result, the severe weather condition in one location (Diesendorf, 2014).

Additionally, the availability of modular systems composed of multiple individual wind turbines and solar arrays safeguards the continuity and reliability of power should there be damages in some of the basic equipment of the system (Green, 2006). Therefore, the renewable energy enables the country to provide a reliable source of power to its citizens at all time. This is because the possibility of the defect at one location as a result of the unfortunate weather events won't impact the distribution of power to the entire region. And as a result, the country's economic activities continue to operate normally (Tiwari, 2012).

For instance, the unlikely events of the Hurricane Sandy in 2012 damaged non-renewable electric generation and distribution systems in most parts of New York and New Jersey (Craddock, 2008). As a result, millions of Americans were left without power. However, the same Sandy hurricanes did minimal damages to the renewable energy systems. Therefore, the use of renewable source of energy will ensure reliability and availability of power at all-time regardless of the unlikely weather events (Craddock, 2008).

Renewable source of power provides a vast and inexhaustible energy supply to the country (Craddock, 2008). The availability of reliable winds, sunny skies, and heat from the earth provide a constant source of power. This is because this sources of green energy have the technical ability to provide the adequate electricity supply to the nation over a more extended period (Green, 2006). This is because the projections of the technical expertise of green energy are based on the overall availability with regards to specific environmental and technological constraints (Sørensen, 2011).

For instance, in 2012, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory demonstrated that green energy has the technical ability to produce 482, 247 billion Kilowatts-hour of the electricity every year (Green, 2006). This amount translates to 118 time more amount of power than the country can consume. Therefore, the country can use renewable energy to use in operating activities and sell the extra amount of electricity to other nations generating an additional revenue to be used in developing the infrastructural facilities of the country (Sørensen, 2011).

As evident, the use renewable energy brings about a lot of benefits to not only the country but also its citizens. Green energy improves public heathy, ensure a clean environment and provides an inexhaustible source of power. Additionally, renewable energy facilitates the creation of job opportunities and the provision of the affordable and reliable energy system. Therefore, I believe governments should invest in the development of renewable energies.
