Introduction

I was raised up with Harry Potter and Snow White, so the international cinema with its British and American movies were and still one of the powerful elements which influence my personality.

Both the US and the UK are nations of movie lovers, of course, the value of the cinema have been changed over the years in both countries. but from the very start the cinema was one of the very important entertainment forms, however, both countries now have a lot of forms of delivering their movies, such as gaming consoles, Blu Ray, and large TVs in the homes and of course the online watchingBut when it comes to the business of film, it’s hard to compete with Hollywood, but with the massive cinematic production in America, UK is one of her competitors.I chose to search about the cinematic industry in those two giant movie makers (USA and UK) to know about how it became so successful like now a day, to see their ups and down throw the history from its beginning till this very moment.

Hollywood and the American Cinema Industry

We don’t know exactly who was the first to name the place Hollywood. But most of all we can say that H. J. Whitley, the Father of Hollywood. He and his wife Gigi reportedly went dependent upon with those names done 1886 same time with respect to their vacation (from Margaret Virginia Whitley's memoir). We have to also mention that Mrs. Wilcox coined the name in 1883; while she known as a wealthy lady who often spoke of her country home named after a settlement of Dutch immigrants from Zwolle called 'Hollywood', and when she returned to Los Angeles she so named her country place.A few of Europe's best talents were sparkle at Hollywood, same time silent cinema might have been improved under a parody style for Chaplin, Keaton also Lloyd and the mental dramatizations for Erich von Stroheim. Toward then, 'Hollywood' required turn into synonymous with American Cinema. After the First World War, a business created by semi-literate Jewish immigrants, dominated by studios that not only made films, but also distributed and exhibited them, and had established offices worldwide.

Hollywood's best decade started with the publicizing trademark 'Garbo talks!'. Sound pictures brought a flood of new writers to Tinsel town, ranging from wisecracking newspapermen to William Faulkner.Throughout the Brilliant period about Hollywood, which endured from those late 1920s of the late 1940s, motion pictures were issued from the Hollywood studios like the cars rolling off Henry Ford's assembly lines. The big five studios back then were:

  • Warner Bros. Portraits might have been consolidated to 1923.
  • Those well-known Players-Lasky Cor got to be fundamental studios for 1927.
  • RKO (Radio-Keith-Orpheum) Pictures, advanced starting with those shared novels into a film enterprise (1912), might have been built clinched alongside 1928.
  • Metro portraits partnership might have been a generation particular organization established over 1916.
  • Fox film Corporation/Foundation, might have been established.

Previously, 1912.The studios developed different visual and dramatic styles, Disney transferred from short movies to the feature-length movies. In 1939 the technicolour came into its own; this was the greatest year in Hollywood's history, with Stagecoach, The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind. The Hollywood novel, became firmly established in 1941, with Budd Schonberg’s What Makes Sammy Run? and F.Scott Fitzgerald's The Last Tycoon. The Hollywood Walk of Fame was created in 1958 and the first star was placed in 1960 as an tribute will specialists working in the amusement industry.

Now we can see the big success of Hollywood all over the world, not in only in movies but also in the tv shows and the series, festivals and awards as we can surly mention The Oscar and The Grammy’s. According to recent statistics from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) almost 70 per cent of the studios’ annual revenue from box office now comes from international markets. Americans younger than 18 and older than 40 are actually watching more movies than they were five years ago. But the most important measure to Hollywood, 18-to-24-year-olds, is also abandoning movies faster than any other group. Well, their attention is pouring into mobile devices and apps, like Netflix and premium cable apps (where many Hollywood auteurs have decamped), YouTube, Facebook, and Snapchat. Although the global attention for Hollywood movies is growing it’s stronger in some parts of the world than others. China and Russia are both big expanding markets. According to the MPAA, Chinese box office revenues grew by an astonishing 36% last year to make it the world’s second biggest movie market after the US. Clearly, Hollywood has to tread carefully. It can’t afford to reinforce old stereotypes if it wants to make money in the international marketplace.

Cinema Industry in UK

Film and cinema as an entertainment began as an industry in the 19th century in the UK, the US and France. The first moving picture was shot by Louis Le Prince in 1888. The following year, it was developed by William Friese Greene in London’s Hyde Park and he patented the process in 1890. Later, the first working 35mm camera by Birt Acres and Robert W Paul built in 1895, they produced the very first British film, with the name “Incident at Closely Cottage”. The government was quick to recognize cinema as one of the Entertainment Tax in 1916.In 1936, film production was less than 200 films produced that year, and the number fell by two- thirds in the following four years. While the industry was still in recession when WWII began, it saw another success after the war. The number of movie theatres increased, even though the number of film studios decreased, with numbers going from 19 million weekly in 1938 to 30 million in 1945.

The director Matthew Vaughn speaking in an interview for BBC Radio 4 series The Business of Film affirmed: “In England, most people think it’s an achievement to get a film made, which I think is crazy. If we could start talking about the British film industry, I am possibly the most hated man in it… Because we don’t have a British film industry, and I’m bored of everyone saying we do have one, and I think it’s crazy that we subsidize British movies with tax breaks but we don’t get any of that money back. We’re subsidizing Hollywood. We’re service providers. We’re not an industry.” The UK box office share of UK independent films varies from year to year. 2011 is shaping up to be the most successful year in over two decades for British film at the box office. Oscar winner The King’s Speech became the highest grossing independent British film of all time, earning £45.7m at UK cinemas and £266m worldwide.

The UK Film Council has a Development Fund which supports writers who are working on a feature film script that has great potential. Britain’s novel transformed into films presently fails to offer a way component that might lift it of the status of a feasible industry. In the UK, the native film industry and the independent movies are the same thing.

Today, the average British person watches over 80 films per year on big and small screens, across a variety of devices and in a range of places and spaces. The British public loves film and film makes a vital contribution to the UK’s economy of £4.2bn a year and is a key part of its cultural life. Growing and developing the overall audience for film throughout the UK, across all platforms, remains an important policy objective in the digital era. UK Vs USABy 1910, British movies needed assumed control over 15% of the U.S market. However, this early triumph waned fast.

Concerning illustration American movies took through with movies that were great showcased Also by 1914, the British films’ offer of the nearby advertise dwindled starting with half should less 10%. American films have taken over the local market and the government eventually realized the value of the film industry to the country’s economy, creating the Cinematograph Films Act 1927. The years following the war saw a boom in film production in the UK to over 120 films in 1950. It was also in the 1940’s that J. Arthur Rank built his film company that rose to compete with Hollywood film studios in terms of size and scope. It is clear that those U.S proceeds will bring an effect for motion picture stimulated in the UK. In the same time that UK goes with the making of novel into a film industry, we frequently all the still look towards the US not only to produce some of the year’s bestsellers, but also to decide which movies the audience and the producers would spend their money on seeing it at the cinema.

Although Britain has many production companies, they are not on the same scale as those in Hollywood. There’s an abundance of technical, creative and acting talent in the UK, and it’s largely thanks to Hollywood that this British talent is being given a chance to shine. But the real development in the movies concept is the sequels, sequels have been the lifeblood of the movie business for more than a decade. In 2011, the seven top films were all sequels, including Fast 5 and the final Harry Potter instalment. In 2015, the eight biggest opening weekends were all sequels, including Furious 7 and the latest Star Wars instalment. Although Britain has more encouragement for new technics in the industry, it appears that The Americans are more talented. But maybe the world thinks like that because Hollywood’s productions effect, we can’t help but take more notice and observe more carefully.
