A film about a Phantom, who lives deep below a theater in Paris, is obsessed with an orphaned girl named Christine. The Phantom tricks Christine into thinking he is the Angel of Music Christine’s father told her about when he passed. The Phantom hides his disformed face by a mask adding a darker look to him. Instead of Christine falling for the Phantom, she falls in love with Raoul who is a childhood crush. As the Phantom realizes this relationship going on, he creates a plan to keep Christine by his side. Raoul tries to figure out his plan, ending with a scene of Raoul rescuing Christine.
Actors are very important to each film. Emmy Rossum plays Christine Daae who was orphaned as a young girl and is the main character. Gerard Butler plays the Phantom who was an intense character that was obsessed with Christine. Patrick Wilson plays Raoul who was Christine’s crush and saves her from the Phantom. Jennifer Ellison plays Meg who was Christine’s best friend in the film. These are just a couple of the performers each with a specific role.
The film has a few dances. They include dance in the performances of the operas. They usually use ballet dancers in the background to help add to the story. They also dance in the scene on the roof. This is a scene between Raoul and Christine professing their love for one another. Raoul also promises to protect her. Dance is also used in the Masquerade scene. Dance is used in this film to help add background, since it is a musical there is a lot of music. Music can involve dancing a lot of the time. For example, performers on stage will dance or add movements to make it feel more alive.
This film is important because it has been around for so long. It is a very popular film written about love, powerful music, and constant entertainment. The film was written based off the novel and has been around since 1909. It has been on Broadway the longest. The Phantom of the Opera has won multiple films. Some of them including Olivier in 1986, Tony Awards for best musical in 1988. Michael Crawford is an actress in the film and has taken home awards for best actor in a musical at both of these. It has won about 70 different major theatre awards.
The music is absolutely amazing. It is so powerful and adds very intense background. The music is very touching and has so much meaning. Each song adds to the story and brings you to the next scene with a new thought of how the last one ended. The songs are used to help tell the story. This film is supposed to be a musical. A musical combines dancing, songs, spoken dialogue, and acting. Without music in this film it would be boring, there wouldn’t be any point of even doing it. The music enhances the drama by the intense tunes.
The meaning behind each song has a purpose for each part of the story. “The Music of the Night” I would say is by far the most important song. I think this song is important because it is played when the Phantom tricks Christine into thinking he is the Angel of Music. She is brainwashed and believes him and follows him into his lair. Another important song is “All I Ask of You” presented by being sung on the top of the building. This is a song between Raoul and Christine by Raoul promising to protect her no matter what. The last song that I think is most important is “Masquerade.” It is a very large ball that everyone wears masks too. It is also the song the monkey music box plays. This is an extremely important part that shows up during different parts of the film. The other songs are also very important to the film presented in different ways. I think these three are the most important.
Overall, this film was made to show true love between a male and female. Raoul went through everything just to save Christine. He loves her more than anyone else could ever do. Christine was able to show compassion to the Phantom but this doesn’t phase Raoul. It is also supposed to shine a fresh new start onto someone so evil like the Phantom. He was so obsessive towards Christine; it had gotten too far and needed to be stopped. One more goal is that everyone has a story no matter what you think of them. We shouldn’t always be quick to judge someone by how they look or act. The Phantom of the Opera is a meaningful film to show intense love and true love.
