Analysis of The Oratorical Style of Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton delivered several kinds of speeches in various periods and events in her life. The former presidential candidate is identified as a gifted speaker; whatever her rhetoric style is, she knew how to get away from stress and panic to face her audience and TV cameras with a large smile and a relaxed body. Variety is consistently presented in her political speeches; she fights, defends justice, gives hope and enthusiastic her passionate supporters using simple language that may be considered as a furious and manly expressing method. Hillary usually declaims her words to all the American social classes whatever their age, gender, cultural level were.

Hillary Clinton has left in a saturated political atmosphere from her youth till now. With each passing year, she gains many political skills that aided her to build a cosmopolitan figure. Hillary is put under the microscope and judged viciously as any popular figure. Any politician is expected to confront his followers, enemies, and opponents with well-structured speeches that inflame the backstage yet, Mrs. Clinton critics about her speeches unanimously are not in her side, after a scan reading of Hillary Clinton’s political speeches, opinions went that the lion's share of her interests are about a non-targeted matters where economic and social problems are not on the top of her focuses. Roberts (2016) added that 'One common criticism is that she spent too much time talking about special-interest issues, targeting the various discrete constituencies of the Democratic Left, and too little discoursing broad economic issues relevant to all working people’.

Views differed about the tongue used by the ex-first lady in her political speeches, many critics mentioned that Hillary Clinton's use a recognizable language that sometimes does not suit her cultural position as a graduated from Yale University; according to them Hillary cannot defend her main point of view presenting a convincing arguments in a prestigious rhetoric level. Her manner is wooden, her enunciation angular, and everything she says sounds (to my ear anyway) about a half-tone sharp.' Many criticizers share the same ray about her verbal expression while few others are satisfied with her word choice and simple language defended that she utilizes pretty hookey instances of wordplay. Denton and Holloway (2003, 119) who advocated her by saying:

“Her language was always direct, confident, and free of hedges, intensifiers, disclaimers, or tag questions. The speeches reflected her experience as a lawyer and political activist in the language she used. Her language choices emphasized her apparent strength of conviction and seriousness of purpose.”

Along her life, Hillary had delivered hundreds of speeches, life experiences, social positions changing, and political conflicts consequently her personality changed throughout specific circumstances. What is most important in her personality traits remodeling is her language altering.

This study reveals how Clinton’s linguistic style changed over time as she transitioned between roles and climbed up the political ladder. Ultimately I find that Clinton’s linguistic style grew increasingly masculine over time, as her involvement and power in the political world expanded. I argue that changes in her linguistic style reflected the performance of gendered roles, expectations of political leaders, as well as the masculine norms of communication that permeate political institutions

Throughout this period, Mrs. Clinton's language rhetoric became progressively masculine corresponding to her professional development and career growth the word choice, and the language use changed lost its progestirounic touch since masculine rules of communication homogenate policymaking.

Political speeches are usually known by their annoyance and coldness, Hillary is well recognized by her usage of targeted words and motivational sentences. While interpreting her speeches; it is noticeable she always highlighted specific examples from concrete life, stories of brilliant success, suffering, support... Hillary realized how to instantly catch her audience attention to make them experience what her examples were undergoing; this is what Sheckels (2009) emphasized when he said: 'Even though she offered few personal revelations, she did offer stories of citizens confronting crises or day-to-day life challenge.' Hillary Clinton mentioned her mother on many occasions as a role model; she didn't reject her efforts in buildings her personality and give her hope to face distress. She has some tries to soften her speeches as she relies on the emotional rhetoric side when it is necessary to get rid of the conversation boredom.

Although opinions changed about Hillary Clinton's personality unquestionably, the majority of criticizers have agreed that her oratorical style is woody and indirect named her speeches as accepted and it ignores the methods of persuasion. Bennister’s opinion about her rhetorical method precisely is “Clinton has generally not been lauded for her oratorical skill; her success in public office has not been due to any sharp and succinct rhetorical techniques. Her style was initially prosaic and tended toward lengthy and complex responses to questions” However her social position gave her the reasonable chance to defend the American people rights, her political ambition and her party's image and interest.
